MODERN FAMILY RECAP: FARM STRONG

The hilarity continues this week as Luke joined a soccer team. Phil and Claire have to wake up early on Saturday mornings for his games (that last all day) and Luke sits on the bench most of the time. Now that Claire is working, she wanted to Luke’s game to get some errands and house work done; so she convinced Phil that they should let Luke go to the game with his friends. Phil agreed only if Luke was 100% on board with it (which he was after Claire coached him).

Cam’s older sister Pam is coming to visit and Cam is afraid to tell her that he and Mitchell are getting married because she is still single and doesn’t handle wedding news well. Surprisingly, the joke’s on Cam because Lily let it slip that her Daddies were getting married and Pam was so happy for them! She picked up Mitch over her shoulder and said she wanted her brother to be happy. Then she shared that she is also engaged to Bo, Cam’s High school crush! Say what? But instead of being happy for her, Cam is the one who is upset.

Jay is convinced that Gloria needs glasses because she has been having problems reading lately. She said she went to the eye doctor and she has 20/20 vision but Jay knew that wasn’t true. So to prove his point, with Manny’s help, he pretended that he ate rat poison instead of Trail mix and handed her the box to read the emergency instructions. She couldn’t read it fast enough and he said “I’d be dead now.” This frustrated Gloria even more and she stormed away.

Claire had a great day running errands and finished up early so she decided to go to Luke’s soccer game after all. Luke was playing like a superstar and she cheered him on. Phil called because his day wasn’t going as smoothly. His automatic gutter cleaner- The Gutter Done as he calls it- killed a nest of baby birds and he felt guilty. Claire didn’t want to tell him she was at the game because she knew he would be upset, so she left and told Luke not to tell him she was there.

Cam told Mitch in the kitchen that he couldn’t believe that Bo was engaged to his sister. Mitch wondered if he should be jealous of Cam’s feelings about his old crush, but decided to let it go. Cam told Mitch that he was probably only interested in her for her inheritance and Pam overheard. She was not a happy girl and all hell broke loose! Cam and Pam argued and Cam said everyone in the family knew she was fragile and she told him that everyone knew he wasn’t “Farm Strong” and that’s why he left because he couldn’t handle it. Aw snap! Cam was ticked off!

When Luke got home from the game Claire tried to get him to tell Phil about his awesome game (without letting it slip that she was there) but he wouldn’t. He knew his Dad felt bad for missing it and didn’t want him to feel worse.

Everyone was at Jay and Gloria’s for dinner and Mitch told Cam to let the tension between him and Pam go for the evening, but Cam was not going for it.  To prove Pam wrong, he asked the family if they feel like they have to walk on egg shells around him when it comes to relaying bad news. And to Cam’s surprise, no one said anything. So he asked everyone to share something that they kept from him for fear that he would freak out, and the sharing began. Claire said when he canceled lunch with her she went to the restaurant and Beyonce was there and she got to meet her. Cam accepted her news but you could tell it bothered him a little. Manny told him that he used the word Divine too much and he was ok with that. Lily told him that sometimes when he reads to her at night she pretends to be asleep so he would go away. That was it! Cam had a mini meltdown and let it slip to Phil that Claire went to Luke’s soccer game without him. Payback!

Pam and Mitchell found Cam hiding in the bathroom and cheered him up by telling him he is an over-celebrator and he is the first person they want to share good news with. That is one of his traits they love most about him. Cam realized he is sensitive, but that is ok.

Claire told Phil how awesome Luke was at the soccer game and apologized for not calling him. He was mad at her but so proud of Luke (who will be starting in the next game). Go Luke!

Gloria admits to Jay that she feels like she is getting old, and that’s why she didn’t want to face the eye doctor.  He told her that he felt closer to her now that she was getting older. He figured he can’t hear and she can’t see so that would be the recipe to keep them together forever!

Modern Family airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on ABC.
