Nice Girls Spoil: Covert Affairs, Major Crimes, The Newsroom
Happy Fourth of July, fellow Americans! Before you dash off to BBQs and fireworks and parades, enjoy the freedom of getting some scoop on your favorite summer shows. This week we’re taking a look ahead at the action on Covert Affairs, Major Crimes, and The Newsroom.
Covert Affairs
When the show returns for its fourth season on July 16, Annie and Auggie are very much together, to our delight, but getting involved with a fellow agent can be tricky. As the season premiere unfolds, secrets are uncovered not just between our newly-minted couple, but between Arthur and Joan as well. A conspiracy leads to another conspiracy and by the end of the episode, someone’s been shot, someone’s past reveals a major secret, someone’s present reveals a major secret, and clues are given for a secret to be revealed in the future. In other words, business as usual!
Major Crimes
In the episode coming up August 5, it’s Senior Citizen Day! First, our buddy Provenza continues to battle the inevitable as he struggles to pass his shooting test so he can avoid permanent desk duty. As he hides his many failed tests, the squad catches a case involving the residents of an old apartment building nicknamed The Shangri-La. Tim Conway, Paul Dooley, Ron Glass, Doris Roberts, and Marion Ross guest star as the building’s tenants who may or may not know what happened to the victim.
The Newsroom
Aaron Sorkin’s treatise on the business of reporting the news kicks off its second season on July 14, and it looks like fans of a certain ‘ship are going to have to bide their time. After kissing at the end of season 1, Jim and Maggie find themselves in different places – literally – at the beginning of this season. Jim volunteers to be the network’s embedded reporter on Mitt Romney’s campaign trail, where he encounters Grace Gummer’s character, while Maggie seeks additional responsibility and goes after bigger stories back at the network.
That’s it for this week, Nice Girls and Boys! Have a safe and happy Independence Day!
