MODERN FAMILY: We Shall Call Him Fulgencio…Or Not

The Pritchett’s are happy to have their baby home. One thing Jay isn’t used to at his house is Gloria’s mother Pilar (Elizabeth Peña)and her sister Sonia (Stephanie Beatriz). Pilar wants them to name the baby Fulgencio (pronounced Full-Hen-Cee-o) after her late husband, but Jay is not feeling that name. He tried to tell her that he won’t name his son Fulgencio but she gets upset and pulls out a gun and starts waving it around at him and telling him how she doesn’t like him. It was a little too over the top.

Phil is feeling left out because the kids only want to go to Claire when they have a problem. So he told them to give him a shot and he ended up making everything worse and they all were mad at him. He is still determined to make things right.

Gloria feels guilty about having a wonderful life and Sonia has nothing at home. She is very quiet and likes to keep busy doing housework. Gloria offers her a nice outfit to wear to the christening and she is blown away by Gloria’s closet. She asked her everyone in the town gave her their clothes.

Jay talks to Claire about his problems with his mother in-law. He has been nice to her from the beginning and she still doesn’t like him. Claire thinks it is funny because the scenario sounds familiar to her, and Jay figures it out. He is like Phil in this relationship.

Lily has been making snarky remarks lately so Cam and Mitchell try to set a better example for her by being nicer to people. Cam takes the blame for her attitude and Mitchell lets him, which is not what Cam was expecting. He wanted Mitchell to take some of the blame, but instead Mitchell said Cam does comment on everything. This bothered Cam so he decided to keep quiet about things. This wasn’t so good for Mitchell because he had a pair of purple underwear sticking out of the back of his pants and Cam said nothing about it.

At the church everything got a little crazy. Mitchell went to light a candle and the purple underwear was sticking out and everyone saw. Jay asked him “Is that some kind of gay protest? Put that away we are in church” It was absolutely hilarious! That was the funniest part of this episode.

In an attempt to win Pilar over, Jay stood up and told the story about how he met Gloria. In a twist we find out that he actually sent a piece of pie to Sonia and not Gloria, but Gloria came over and started talking to him. Sonia jumps up and screams that Gloria stole her life and they all start yelling. It was again, over the top.

Once the christening resumes, Claire and Phil take the stage with Jay and Gloria (since they are the God Parents). In a Godfather-ish montage, while Phil is agreeing to renounce the devil, we see Luke single handedly fixes each of the problems that Phil made worse. Luke makes a trailer knock down their neighbor’s lemon tree for Hayley, shoots the balloons that were blocking Phil’s billboard with a BB gun, lets rats free at Alex’s classmates party (that she stole the idea from Alex to have), and finally left a zebra head along with the cotton stuffing in an ex- friend’s bed who bullied him at school for calling his teacher “mom.” Phil had Luke as a secret weapon and everyone’s problems are solved Gangster style

At the closing of the christening Jay announces the name of the baby as Fulgencio Joseph Pritchett (but will never call him that).
