SHOWRUNNERS: A DOCUMENTARY FILM: Message from the Masters
When this press release showed up in my email inbox it almost went directly to my trash bin. But Showrunners: A Documentary Film sounded like a title I may be interested in learning more about and my curiosity was peeked. Our focus here at NiceGirlsTV has always and will continue to be, strong female leads in television. We all choose our favorite shows and we write about them here. But strong females are not just seen on our screens each week. They are behind the cameras as well. Nice Girl Rueben demonstrates her respect for females as showrunners in her series Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight.
All that being said, I felt like I really wanted to help spread the word about Showrunners so the film can get made! Here’s the presser:
SHOWRUNNERS is the first ever feature length documentary to explore the fascinating world of US television showrunners and the creative forces aligned around them. These people are responsible for creating, writing and overseeing every element of production on one of the United State’s biggest exports – television drama and comedy series. The film takes audiences behind the scenes of the chaotic world of the showrunner to reveal the incredible amount of work that goes into making sure their favorite TV series airs on time as well as the challenges that showrunners must overcome to ensure a new series makes it onto the schedules at all.
Some of the talent appearing in SHOWRUNNERS include:
JOSS WHEDON – BUFFY, FIREFLY J.J. ABRAMS – LOST, ALIAS, REVOLUTION
DAMON LINDELOF – LOST TERENCE WINTER – BOARDWALK EMPIRE
BILL PRADY – THE BIG BANG THEORY KURT SUTTER – SONS OF ANARCHY

Who doesn’t want to know what goes on in the writers room? Haven’t you wanted to be able to pick the brains of these mighty talents? I have and I have! I want this film to be created – a lot. Maybe it will inspire the coming generation of showrunners, you never know. I thought about the fact that if only 4,000 people gave $20 toward Showrunners, they’d be able to meet their goal by Christmas. I’ve seen campaigns for Twitter followers generate results that were phenomenal. Why can’t this work too? And what a nice way to spread that holiday cheer, no?
The goal is $80,000 by Dec. 25th. There are some really nice incentives to help persuade you. Win – win!
Take a look at the promo and see what you think.
Follow the progress on Facebook and Twitter, and help get the word out!
