How Could Disney Buying Lucasfilm Impact TV? We Have Some Ideas!
When the news broke this afternoon that The Walt Disney Company had acquired Lucasfilm Ltd for about $4 billion, and that a new Star Wars trilogy is launching in 2015, we were excited. While we love the original trilogy, the franchise needs a new creative handler if it’s going to succeed in the 21st century. But what does this acquisition mean for television? Disney owns several networks, including ABC, ABC Family, and The Disney Channel, and they’re masters of synergy. Here are a few ideas for creative use of this new universe of characters coming into the Disney fold.
- Princess Leia joins Princesses Snow White, Aurora, and Mulan in their battle against the Evil Queen (and her mom) on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
- The Pretty Little Liars find out that “A” is actually Anakin Skywalker, getting his revenge for some Mean Girling on his way to becoming Darth Vader.
- After Emily’s mentor, Takeda, is killed while helping her exact Revenge, she turns to Obi-Wan Kenobi for guidance.
- The Max Rebo Band plays on the iCarly series finale.
- Han Solo shows Rick Castle what a real space cowboy looks like.
May the Force be with you, Mickey!
