DROP DEAD DIVA: Jane’s Getting Married! Or Is She?

Earlier this week I received a very special invitation to the wedding of Jane Bingum and Owen French on Drop Dead Diva. Modeled after a real invitation, it included a DVD with the season 4 finale, “Jane’s Getting Married.” So, do Jane and Owen walk down the aisle?

As with most episodes, the cases on trial parallel what’s happening in the characters’ personal lives. This time Jane tries to help an old friend of Deb’s who’s wife refuses life-saving surgery, calling into question their wedding vows as Jane wrestles with what to say to Owen at the altar. Deb-as-Jane’s inner conflict about her upcoming wedding is a major thread throughout the episode. When Jane’s mom comes to help her daughter, Deb misses her own mom being present for the Big Day. Luke and Stacy do their part to help her through her maze of emotions, and everything seems to be on the right track until that scene from the preview with the stuck wedding dress.

Meanwhile, in Heaven, the real Jane has been watching Deb-as-Jane and isn’t happy with what she sees, so she goes in search of the key to returning to Earth. The Heaven Help Desk isn’t very helpful with that. And Kim has a touchy issue of her own to deal with as she defends a pop singer (Chelsea Kane) accused of inspiring a fan (Kelly Osbourne) to kill her cheating ex. Listen, it’s complicated, and by the time Grayson finds Jane stuck in the Bride’s room and the final scene plays out, you can multiply that complexity by about a trillion. It’s going to be a loooong hiatus, Divas.
