WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American Superheroines
Thanks to an article at Pop Candy, the weekly column at USA Today written by Whitney Matheson, I recently learned about a documentary film that is (hopefully) going to be featured at the annual South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas next month.
That documentary is called Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines. A film that focuses on the history of the universe as told by Wonder Women – yes, plural! If you want a literal translation, the documentary film is all about female heroes (in the pop culture world and in real life).
Among the personalities included in the film, made by filmmakers Kristy Guevara-Flanagan and Kelcey Edwards, are Gloria Steinem, Lindsey Wagner and Lynda Carter [among others]. And, it is the ladies’ goal to raise the necessary funds to have the world premiere of Wonder Women! at South By Southwest – and that is where we can help out.
A Kickstarter fund is undergoing – with only 19 days remaining – to reach the goal of $15,000. Visit the link to find out how you can help and receive some fun incentives for your donation such as signed DVDs, T-shirts, toys and posters. The film is already done, the filmmakers now need to professionally sound mix and color grade the film as well as prepare a festival print – that is the reason for the Kickstarter fund.
To highlight more the documentary film, Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman from its birth in comic book form in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today. The film looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation.
