MODERN FAMILY: Me? Jealous?

By  |

Thank you Modern Family for not falling in the usual trap of the lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day episode. I thought it was fantastic and funny that they chose to tackle the issue of jealousy this episode and as always, it was hilarious. Cam vs. Gloria, Mitchell vs. Jay, Claire vs. Phil! Not to mention Greg Kinnear guest starred as Tad and he really was a character. Good Times!

The episode starts with Phil doing his best to charm a rich realtor Tad (Greg Kinnear). He prepared a huge dinner with salmon, steak, chicken and shrimp (Yum Phil knows how to impress someone). Tad seemed to enjoy the meal and their company, especially Claire’s. Things went from having a great time to awkward when Tad gave Claire a lingering kiss on the lips as he said goodnight (Ewww!). Phil was so excited that he might have a business deal with Tad, he didn’t notice how Tad kissed his wife. When she brought it to his attention, he brushed it off.

The next day Tad stopped by, while Phil wasn’t home, to fix the kitchen table, and bring over wine. Once again Phil doesn’t seem to see a problem with Tad’s behavior. After they make a business deal, Tad insists Claire join them for dinner, followed by another lingering kiss on the lips (ok, this is just super weird/borderline creepy at this point). Phil still doesn’t see Tad as being inappropriate (really Phil?).

Mitchell, Cam and Lily are staying with Jay, Gloria, and Manny while their house is being fumigated. This is where the real fun begins. Cam decides to organize Gloria’s kitchen, which bothers her but she keeps it to herself. Lily just loves Gloria and Cam gets jealous when Lily wants Gloria to take her to school. The tension between Cam and Gloria gets thick! Jay is driving Mitchell crazy with all of his Lawyer jokes.

Manny tries to ease the tension between his mom and Cam by making up a story about a girl at school, that really applies to their squabble. He is so smart when it comes to resolving a family problem (that’s why we love Manny). Gloria and Cam eventually realize each other’s good intentions. They turn on some music and work together in the most fabulous cooking preparation you have ever seen. It was like a cooking tango in the kitchen and Cam had on his leopard apron! (RAWR! Looking good Cam! This happened to be my favorite part of the episode).

Mitchell had a business meeting with radio personality Booker Bell and Jay decides to drop in to meet his favorite radio prankster. Annoyed and embarrassed, Mitchell thinks this proves how his father doesn’t respect his profession. Jay reassures his son that he is proud of him and Mitchell decides to make his day by having Booker Bell play a prank on him.

Over at the Dunphy’s, Haley listed herself as a Big Sister (as in the charity) on a college application, so now her Phil and Claire are making her follow through with it. Surprisingly, Haley really enjoys hanging out with her Little Sister. This makes Alex upset and she gets jealous because she is her little sister. They argue and Luke jumps in to confess that they both are bad big sisters to him. Haley and Alex feel bad and remember all the fun they had torturing Luke when he was younger. They used to love to dress him up as Betty Luke. They break out the clothes and makeup (Luke hates every minute of it) and Voila, Betty Luke emerges.

Over at Tad’s house for dinner, we see that Tad kisses everyone on the lips as a hello or goodbye greeting (Germs much?). Phil was right to not be jealous and Claire relaxes around him. Then it happens, she begins to laugh at all of Tad’s jokes. Phil will not stand for this behavior! He wants to be the only one to make Claire laugh. Claire felt special and was happy to see that something still makes him jealous.

Modern Family airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on ABC.
