VAMPIRE DIARIES: Bringing Out The Dead

By  |

My heart is still racing from this episode.  Wow! Just when you think it can’t get better, it does! This was one of the best episodes thus far. The performances by Candice Accola (Caroline) and Joseph Morgan (Klaus) blew me away!

It starts off with Klaus telling Elijah that their father Mikeal is dead, he asks for Elijah to help him in taking Stefan down. If they are successful their family can finally reunite once the fourth coffin is returned.

Sherriff Forbes pays Elena and Alaric a visit and tells them that the stake that was used to murder Brian (the medical examiner) had only one set of fingerprints on it. Elena’s. Damon thinks Alaric’s new love interest, Dr. Fell, is involved (I think so too, she seems a little crazy) but Elena wonders if Klaus or Stefan have anything to do with it.

At the hospital, Dr. Fell tells Caroline that her father recovered and was discharged, but warned her that he wasn’t happy about being cured by vampire blood. Caroline tells Elena the good news and tries to call her Dad, but strangely hears his phone ringing in the hospital.  They follow the ring to find Bill stabbed in the stomach and his throat was slashed. He would be dead but since there’s vampire blood in his system he has 2 choices, drink blood and live as a vampire, or die.

Elena and Caroline sit outside Caroline’s house and try to figure out who was behind her father’s attack. Was it Dr. Fell or maybe Tyler? Elena comforts Caroline as they prepare for her father’s death. He strongly believes that it is wrong to cheat death and refuses to live as a vampire. Caroline tried to be strong but broke down when Matt showed up.

After some convincing by Damon, the Salvatore brothers go to a dinner party with Klaus and Elijah. Awkward! Elijah asks about Elena, not knowing about the love triangle, which leads to a story about a lovely girl named Tatia (the first member of the Petrova line) whom Elijah and Klaus fought over. To end their quarrel, their mother took Tatia’s blood and used it to turn them into vampires. After time, Klaus and Elijah learned to respect family bonds by putting family first (we will see about that).

Bonnie and her mother are in the Lockwood caves, where the fourth coffin is stored. Stefan pressures Abby by telling her Klaus would kill them all if she couldn’t unearth her powers. After looking over the cave paintings, they discover a spell that requires two members of the same generation to open the sealed coffin. They attempt the spell but only after Bonnie lets off some steam at Abby, they begin to make some progress. Bonnie leaves eager to tell Damon the good news, but as soon as she leaves Abby finds that whatever was in the coffin is gone.

Damon attempts a truce and tells Klaus that they will return the coffin if the Originals leave Mystic Falls for good and leave the Salvatore’s and Elena alone. Klaus isn’t fond of this offer because he doesn’t want to leave Elena (her blood is the only way for him to make Hybrids).  Klaus offers to protect Elena so that she can fall in love with a human, have children and be happy. But his real reasoning behind her protection is so the Petrova bloodline will continue. Stefan declines the offer and Klaus reacts by taking Stefan’s hand and shoving it into the fire. He threatens to kill Stefan if Damon doesn’t bring the coffin. Elijah goes with Damon to make sure he follows directions (so we think).

Matt walks Elena home from Caroline’s (Matt is the best guy ever! He is always so supportive of Elena and Caroline). They go inside to find no power, bloody handprints everywhere and Alaric stabbed in the stomach at the top of the stairs (what the hell is going on in Mystic Falls? It is like a game of Clue. The crazy doctor did it with Elena’s stake in the hallway). Elena stops Matt from calling 911 and explains that since he’s wearing his ring, if he dies of supernatural causes, he’ll be brought back to life. Elena is a supernatural doppelganger, so she stabs him in the heart to save him. Now that is what you call a tough night.

Caroline tries to convince her Dad that he doesn’t have to die, but Bill sticks to his beliefs. Caroline is upset but Bill tells her that she’s exactly who he hoped she would grow up to be. She begs him not to leave her and they embrace. Sherriff Forbes peeks in and sees this heart breaking moment between her daughter and her father. Did anyone else need a tissue at this moment? So sad.

Back at the dinner party gone awry, Elijah enters revealing that he’s undaggered Rebekah, Finn and Kol (the other Originals), instead of going to get the fourth coffin. They take turns stabbing Klaus (I knew the whole “respecting family bonds” thing would not last for long). Elijah dismisses the Salvatore brothers and tells them “This is family business” (hold on to your seats people, this is only the beginning).

Klaus’s siblings threaten that they’re going to leave him alone forever, right after they kill the doppelganger (Elena, NO!) Klaus swears to track them down, and then a woman enters the room. It is their mother, Esther (the Original Witch). Gasp! She was the mystery guest in the fourth coffin. Everyone is shocked!  Esther walks up to Klaus and orders him to look at her. She asks if he knows why she’s there, and Klaus says that she’s there to kill him.  It appears that Esther has other plans. She tells Klaus she’s there to forgive him and tells all her children that she wants to be a family again (Whoa! I didn’t see that coming at all).

On a final note, Damon and Stefan confessed to each other that they both love Elena, but who does Elena love (after that kiss on the porch I know who I would pick)? They find that Bonnie and Abby are both unconscious at the caves. Stay tuned folks. There is so much more to this story and I can’t wait for next week’s episode.
