Raising Hope Recap: Burt’s Parents

By  |

This week on Raising Hope, we find out a little more about Burt’s family. As it turns out, Burt’s parents are very wealthy (who knew?) Unfortunately, they’ve made him feel like the unappreciated son his entire life. His older brother, Bruce, has been the smarter and more successful son since childhood. Burt, everyone’s favorite goofball, was their big disappointment.

Burt’s parents invite themselves over for Thanksgiving, but Burt doesn’t want them to know how he lives his life. Virginia discovers that a house she cleans is going on vacation for the holidays, so they decide to pretend it’s their house to impress Burt’s family. The Chance’s always have such great plans…hehee

At the house Jimmy and Sabrina pretend to be married so it doesn’t seem like he also had a child out of wedlock (they practice fake kissing and I can’t deny my heart skipped a beat at how adorably happy Jimmy was over it). Maw-maw starts IM’ing with someone on the daughters computer and ends up naked, and in a vidchat. No one was surprised there.

As a way of showing how successful they are the Chance’s get Barney to pretend to be the caterer. The entire time he speaks in a ridiculous accent that only adds to the outrageousness of the night.
At the end of the night Burt’s father comes clean and tells him that he lost all of his money to Madoff and Border (hilarious) and is now broke. He and Burt’s mother want to stay at the new Chance home for a little while, and like a dumbass Burt says yes.

Unfortunately, the next morning the real homeowners come back after a skiing accident and kick the Chance’s right out. Burt has to admit to his father that they were lying and go back to their real home. The Chance’s decide to take on the project of teaching Burt’s parents how to “live when you’re poor”. His father gets a job in a chicken suit; his mother goes grocery shopping for bad food with Virginia, etc. But Burt’s parents just can’t hack it. They decide to come clean to Burt’s successful brother so that they don’t have to be poor anymore.

Before they leave, Burt’s father tells him that he no longer thinks of Burt as a slacker but is actually impressed how he takes care of his family and works for very little money! The words that Burt has always desired to hear have finally been spoken!!

Of course, things couldn’t end on just a happy/sweet note. Maw-maw’s “vidchat” BF shows up at the door, looking for her. Obviously.

Best Burt Moment:
Burt’s father finds a 40 year old scotch and Burt replies that he meant to throw that out because it’s probably gone bad. Oh Burt, how I love you so.
