Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on director Marita Grabiak.

Marita was born in Ambridge, Pennsylvania where she attended Chatham College for Anthropology studies and Carnegie Mellon University for theatrical workshops. She lived in New York City for a year, working in Off Broadway Theatre. She later moved to Los Angeles, graduating from UCLA with a major in motion picture/television and a minor in Art History.

She worked as a script supervisor on over 25 feature films then moved to television for ER from 1994 to 2000, where she moved to directing. Previously she worked as a freelance story analyst/reader for independent feature companies, camera operator, editor and Associate Producer on music videos.

Among the shows she has directed, over the course of the past ten years, include Dawson’s Creek, Angel, Firefly, The Division, Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Miracles, Cold Case, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Everwood, Wonderfalls, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Point Pleasant, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Alias, The Inside, Eureka, In Justice, Surface, K-Ville, Bones, Drive, Dollhouse and The Nine Lives of Chloe King.

She has been working on a documentary in Mexico throughout this year and is an avid world traveler, photographer and videographer. She is also the mom of three children.

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet, Hudson & Rex, SkyMed, The Rookie, Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits. She is looking forward to the fall TV season, including the return of Outlander, Tracker and The Equalizer and the debuts of the new dramas Matlock, Murder In a Small Town, NCIS: Origins and Cross.
