Spending Halloween with a Doctor, a Captain and a Bunch of Gamers
This Saturday (October 22) the folks over at Whedonopolis and Fandom Charities will hold the 4th Annual Halloween Charity Screening of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and The Guild at the Regency Valley Plaza Theatre in North Hollywood, California.
As the folks at Whedonopolis state: “It’s Halloween, so prepare to slip on those gloves, don your mad scientist goggles and come as your favorite villain, henchman, hero or sidekick, and have fun!”
Among the guests at the event will include actress Felicia Day, the creator, writer and star of the hit internet series The Guild. And, as anyone who has attended these events in the past, you never know who else might show up – some even hiding in costume.
Each attendee will receive the traditional Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Interactive Goodie and Swag bag that is designed to encourage audience participation (in the grand tradition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show) as well as special commemorative items and prizes from participating sponsors. Attendees will also get to enter various drawings for fabulous Whedon-related prizes.
As a regular attendee of this annual event, I plan to be there dressed as a fan of Captain Hammer (the character played by actor Nathan Fillion – Castle himself) and hope that those of you who live in Southern California and are fellow Browncoats (for those of you who are not familiar with that vernacular Browncoats are the fans of the short-lived series Firefly), fans of Joss Whedon or avid viewers of the online series The Guild – or those who just love to celebrate Halloween with fellow sci-fi fans – will be there to enjoy the fun.
If you don’t live in the area, though, I would suggest that you sit down and watch Dr. Horrible (and The Guild Season 4 if you have time) along with us (the main event starts at 8 PM Pacific Standard Time) and enjoy a bowl of popcorn along with us.
If you live in SoCal or will be visiting the area this Saturday, you might still be able to get tickets by visiting here.
Musician Spotlight: When Chris Daughtry was voted off season 5 of American Idol, a lot of fans were outraged that he was eliminated too early and wondered what his next step would be in the music industry. Soon enough, Chris formed the rock band Daughtry, releasing the self-titled debut album in 2006. While Chris was, of course, lead vocalist and guitarist for the band, Josh Steely was lead guitarist, Jeremy Brady was rhythm guitarist, Joss Paul was bass guitarist and Joey Barnes was drums and percussion on that debut album. All four also performed backing vocals on the album. This album sold more than four million copies and was named the number one selling album of 2007 by Billboard. The first single from this album was “It’s Not Over,” which became the 8th most played song on US radio in 2007. Their second single “Home” went on to become the 10th most played song in the US in 2007 and won the band a People’s Choice Awards in 2008 for Favorite Rock Song. Since that time, Brian Craddock has taken over for Jeremy Brady on rhythm guitar and backing vocals and Robin Diaz recently took over on drums. The band released their second album “Leave This Town” in July of 2009. The band’s next new album called “Break the Spell” will be released in November of this year.
