BEDLAM: BBC America Brings Thrills & Chills to Saturday Night

BBC America is going from sci-fi to spooky when Bedlam premieres Saturday, October 1. Following the season finale of Doctor Who, viewers will get a dose of goosebump-worthy thrills and chills with the series premiere of Bedlam.

In this modern take on a haunted house story, business-minded Kate (Charlotte Salt) lives in Bedlam Heights with roommates Ryan (Will Young) and Molly (Ashley Madekwe). Kate and her father, Warren (Hugo Speer), own the building, a former asylum which has been in the family for generations.  Kate is the sales agent, tasked to fill the remaining vacant luxury apartments, sweet talking potential tenants into seeing the Gothic structure as a posh apartment house rather than a creepy nuthouse. Think Melrose Place meets The House on Haunted Hill.

Kate is surprised by the unexpected arrival of Jed (Theo James), her (very sexy) adopted cousin, who storms into her apartment only to find her in a compromising position. With a checkered past and mental health issues, Jed is a troubled man who sees ghosts and visions of the past. Recent messages to ‘Save Kate,’ have compelled him to return to his childhood home. Gradually Jed uncovers the terrifying secrets held in Bedlam Heights, while trying to retain his sanity. He’s convinced Kate is in danger from the spooks of Bedlam, but a terrifically chilling cliffhanger reveals an even scarier truth.

More suspense than horror, Bedlam is guaranteed to give you goosebumps and make you eye your bathtub with suspicion. Many questions arise from the first episode – how is Jed receiving the warnings? who is sending them? why is he estranged from his adopted family? why is someone targeting Kate? what exactly happened when the place as an asylum? – and I look forward to figuring out the answers. With the lights on.
