Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Roxann Dawson
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is focused on multi-talented actress, producer and director Roxann Dawson.
Born Roxann Caballero in Los Angeles, California she attended the same high school as Angelina Jolie, Nicolas Cage, Lenny Kravitz and David Schwimmer. She went on to graduate from the University at Berkeley with a degree in Theater Arts, landing her first acting role in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line in 1985.
She moved on to appearances in the daytime soap Another World and the TV shows Nightingales and Baywatch. Throughout the 90’s, she was in the shows Matlock, Equal Justice, Jake and the Fatman, The Round Table and The Untouchables. She also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies during this time.
It was in 1995 that she landed the role that would make her famous: she joined the cast of Star Trek: Voyager in the role of B’Elanna Torres and remained in the show ended until 2001. During her time of this popular series, Roxann began another stage of her career: directing. She took to the director’s chair in 1997 on the TV series The Heartbreak Café as well as on her own show Star Trek: Voyager.
She continued with her acting from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s with appearances in such shows as Any Day Now, Seven Days, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Division and Without A Trace. It was also during this time that she continued with directing on shows like Charmed, Medical Investigation, Any Day Now and The Division.
She was both a director and producer on the popular TV shows Crossing Jordan and Cold Case and over the last five years, she has continued to broaden her career as director by working on shows like The O.C., Lost, Close to Home, Hawthorne, Melrose Place, The Closer, The Good Wife, Rizzoli & Isles, Lie to Me, Caprica, The Mentalist and The Cape. Additionally, she is branching into writing by co-writing a “triology” called Tenebrea.
Roxann has been married to Eric Dawson since 1994 and is the mother of two daughters.
