Top 5 Favorite Thanksgiving Specials
Ah, Thanksgiving! Turkey, cranberries, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pies. The smells that go through my mother’s house at this time of year should be bottled and sold in Hallmark shops. At Thanksgiving, we gather with family and friends, laugh, play games, watch a little football, and no matter how bad a year has been, we somehow manage to think of many things to be thankful for. I include my Nice Girl – Friends in my list.
It used to be, when I was younger, that this was the week for reruns on all out regular shows. While the Thanksgiving specials were a lot fewer than Christmas ones, there are still some memorable ones that I love to watch with my kids. Here are five of them.
- A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving – Always at the top of our list. It’s a classic and the day wouldn’t be complete without at least one viewing.
- Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – This was a tradition from my own childhood. Waking up and having a light breakfast, and then sitting in front of the TV for the big Macy’s parade while still in our PJs. All was right with the world as long as Santa rode that sleigh into New York on that morning.
- Miracle on 34th Street – Yes, it’s a Christmas movie, but it was always the first one that aired to kick off all the holiday movies.
- The Wizard of Oz – Not necessarily a holiday special, but it was always shown on Thanksgiving when I was growing up, and still is today.
- Mouse on the Mayflower – This is not really shown at all anymore, but it’s another childhood memory of mine for Thanksgiving Day.
And there you have it! I hope that you and your family have a special Thanksgiving special that you all share together. Or even a memory or tradition that you pass along to your children and share with friends.
From my house to your, Happy Thanksgiving!
