A Winter and Mid-Season TV Calendar

The TV landscape will be taking a lot of twists and turns starting in December and continuing through mid-season. So much programming, in fact, that keeping track of it all could become impossible. So we here at NiceGirlsTV wanted to devise a calendar to help you with all your viewing options.

The following lists will cover all the new (and projected) shows that will be debuting on the major networks and cable channels as well as movies expected to air on a number of the cable channels. Please keep in mind these dates and times could change so please watch your local listings for alterations.

In the meantime, get your pencils sharpened and have your calendars ready, as it’s going to be one hell of a ride:

DECEMBER

December 1 – Scrubs will now air on ABC with a one-hour premiere at 9 PM
December 1 – Sons of Anarchy will air its season finale on FX at 10 PM

December 2 – NBC will air their annual Christmas in Rockefeller Square at 8 PM.

NOTE:  This special will be co-hosted by Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Jane Krakowski (30 Rock).

December 3 – Bones will be back on FOX at 8 PM

December 4 – Dollhouse returns to FOX for 2 new episodes at 8 PM and 9 PM
December 4 – Monk will have its series finale on the USA Network at 9 PM

December 5 – The series finale of Robin Hood will air on BBC America at 9 PM.
December 5 – The Hallmark Channel movie Debbie Macomber’s Mrs. Miracle will air at 8 PM

Movie Synopsis: Seth Webster (James Van Der Beek) is a single dad to two rambunctious six-year-olds who recently lost his spouse. With the holidays approaching, finding a housekeeper has proven to be near-impossible, until Mrs. Emily Merkle (Doris Roberts) shows up at the Websters’ door, ready to turn their lives around. No sooner has “Mrs. Miracle,” as Seth’s boys call her, straightened up the house, than Seth meets Reba Maxwell (Erin Karpluk), best friend to the Webster kids’ first-grade teacher. After just one date, Seth and Reba find they have a lot in common. Since the death of his music-loving wife, Seth has been unable to play a single chord on the piano, and, in the name of her career, Reba, once an avid actress, has avoided the theater. With a Christmas pageant to prepare for and a fresh romance on the horizon, Mrs. Miracle definitely has her work cut out for her and proves to be more than just a normal nanny.

December 5 – The Lifetime movie 12 Men of Christmas will air at 9 PM

Movie Synposis: Based on the book Decent Exposure by Philippa Ashley, it’s anything BUT a Merry Christmas for die-hard New Yorker and publicist E.J. Baxter (Kristin Chenoweth) when she loses both her high-powered Manhattan job and her lawyer-fiancé on the same night at her office Christmas party. E.J. winds up taking a job and moving to the opposite end of the earth – Kalispell, Montana. To help the local search-and-rescue station raise desperately needed funds, a la “Calendar Girls,” she tries to convince the male rescue workers to pose for a naked calendar and along the way discovers what really matters to her and wins the heart of one of the pin-ups. Co-stars include Josh Hopkins, Anna Chlumsky and Erin Dilly.

December 5 and 6 – The second season of Damages will be reaired on FX (check local listings)

December 6 – The Alice mini-series will air on Syfy at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: This new hour-long program stars Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher as three best friends in their forties dealing with the realities of middle age. Co-stars include Lisa Gay Hamilton (The Practice), Carla Gallo (Bones and Californication) and Brian J. White (Moonlight).

December 12 – The Hallmark Channel movie Christmas in Canaan at 8 PM

Movie Synopsis: In the rising heat of the Civil Rights Movement, Daniel Burton (Billy Ray Cyrus) a widowed farmer struggling to make ends meet, forces his young son, DJ, who has begun to show racist tendencies, to spend time with his black classmate, Rodney, leading to an unexpected friendship. As the years pass and racial tensions in their town build, an unforgettable Christmas will teach the boys the importance of hope and the true meaning of family. Based on a novel co-written by Kenny Rogers. Co-stars include Zak Ludwig and Jaishon Fisher.

December 13 – Dexter will have its season finale on Showtime at 9 PM
December 13 – The Lifetime Movie Network movie The Christmas Hope will air at 9 PM

Movie Synopsis: Based on the book by Donna VanLiere, the movie is about Patty Addison, a social worker, who after suffering a personal tragedy throws herself into finding homes for children in need. With her marriage to Mark, an airline pilot, on the rocks, Patty feels it’s the wrong time to temporarily take in 9-year-old Emily, who has just lost her single mother in a terrible car accident. However, sweet Emily quickly wins over Patty and Mark. As the Addison’s start to reconnect with each other, it’s revealed that their teenage son, Sean, had perished in a car accident two years earlier. The ties run deeper– at the same time in the very same town, Dr. Nathan Andrews, a father-to-be, struggles to find the parents of a young man who died in his ER. While Mark takes a troubled friend of Sean’s, the friend who ultimately holds the key to Emily’s special Christmas gift, under his wing. In a twist of fate, all is almost lost when Emily runs away, but Patty and Mark come together to find her in a true measure of healing and faith. The movie stars Madeline Stowe (The Last of the Mohicans), James Remar (Dexter), Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210) and Devon Weigel (Falcon Beach).

December 13 – The ABC Family Channel movie Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe will air at 8 PM

Movie Synopsis: Mary Class (Jenny McCarthy) has comes to terms with being Santa’s little girl. But when dad (Paul Sorvino) goes through a late-live crisis, he decides to hand over the reins to Mary, who doesn’t want the job. Torn between the “family business” and her fabulous fast-paced life in the big city – not to mention her boyfriend (Dean McDermott) – Mary faces a dilemma. While deciding over what to do a disgruntled former elf (Kelly Stables) puts on a disguise and makes a move to take over Christmas.

December 13 – The ION channel movie A Golden Christmas will air at

Movie Synopsis: One summer a long time ago, a little girl and a little boy were brought together by a very special dog. They played all summer long, it was puppy love. Then the summer ended and they never saw each other again until… years later when her parents (Bruce Davison and Alley Mills) retire and decide to sell their house. Jessica (Andrea Roth), recently widowed, decides she needs to start over and moves back home with her son. She hopes to buy the old house as a Christmas surprise, however, her plan goes awry when she discovers that her parents have already sold it. What she does not know is that the house has been sold to the very same person that she spent that magical summer with years ago. The movie also stars Jason London, Nicholas Brendon and Elisa Donovan.

December 19 – Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars movie will air on BBC America at 9 PM

Movie Synopsis: The second of four Doctor Who specials has David Tennant back as the Doctor; and the movie chronicles his visit to Mars in the year 2059 where he encounters the first human colony, Bowie Base One, which is commanded by Captain Adelaide Brooke (acclaimed British actress Lindsay Duncan, from Rome and Under the Tuscan Sun), who turns out to be a pivotal character in the history of humanity. The Doctor knows that she should die at this time but ultimately decides to change history. Ed Gold is Adelaide’s second in command, played by actor Peter O’Brien.

December 19 – The Hallmark Channel movie The Three Gifts will air at 8 PM

Movie Synopsis: As their orphanage is being renovated, three orphan boys who are known for being trouble makers temporarily move in with Jack and Cherie Green (Dean Cain and Jean Louisa Kelly) over the Christmas Holiday. The Greens are unable to have children and Jack is wary of fatherhood. As his feelings change, however, Jack and Cheri are able to give the children the greatest Christmas give they’ve ever known. Co-stars include Mimi Kennedy and Reginald VelJohnson.

December 21 – The Closer will be back for a short run on TNT at 9 PM

December 24 – The West Wing Marathon on Bravo from 8 AM to 1 PM (holiday episodes)
December 24 and 25 – White Christmas Marathon on AMC from 9 AM to 4:45 AM

Movie Synopsis: This will be the last story for David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor prior to the character’s regeneration into his eleventh incarnation, which will be played by Matt Smith. The Doctor’s psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve and both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entire Universe.

December 27 and 28 – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Marathon on USA Network from 9 AM to 5 AM

December 28 – HBO will be showing Season One of True Blood starting tonight; 3 episodes will air each night – check your local listings

December 31 and January 1 – Burn Notice Marathon on USA Network from 6 AM to 6 AM
December 31 to January 2 – Twilight Zone Marathon on Syfy from 8:30 AM to 6 Am

JANUARY

But when a young girl’s (Jadin Gould) faith in the well’s magic seems to cause a startling change in Cynthia’s life, she begins to question what she is willing to do and sacrifice to simply be happy. Movie Synopsis: Julia Ormond (Legends of the Fall, Sabrina) stars as Janet Gregory, a single-mother with a haunting past, who is a paralegal struggling to overcome doubts about Calvin Willis (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, The 4400), an African-American husband and father wrongfully accused of raping a neighborhood girl. They fight to overturn his sentence and restore faith in the justice system.

January 16 – The Syfy movie House of Bones will debut at 9 PM

Movie Synposis: Charisma Carpenter (Buffy and Angel) and Corin Nemec (Stargate: SG-1) star as a couple of TV-show ghost hunters who find they and their team learn the house they are covering in their latest show really is haunted.

January 17 – Human Target will have a special preview on FOX at 8 PM (more details in January 20 section)

Show Synopsis: After spending all of her 15 years bouncing from one foster family to another in Portland, Oregon, Lux (Britt Robertson, Swingtown) has decided it’s time to take control of her life and become an emancipated minor. Her journey through the legal maze leads Lux to her biological father, 30-something Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, Mad Men), who owns a bar, lives like an aging frat-boy with two slacker roommates, and is astonished to learn that he has a teenage daughter. Lux is equally astonished when Baze reveals that her mother is Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, Roswell) a star on the local “Morning Madness” radio show, along with her on-air partner and real-life boyfriend, Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith, Dawson’s Creek). Lux has been listening to Cate’s voice on the radio as long as she can remember, so she feels an instant connection with the mom she’s never met. Baze takes Lux to meet Cate, who is shocked and saddened to learn that Lux has grown up in foster care, but thrilled to finally meet her beautiful daughter. When a judge decides that Lux isn’t ready for emancipation and unexpectedly grants temporary joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to get past the awkwardness and make a belated attempt to give Lux the family she deserves.

January 21 – The Deep End will debut on ABC at 8 PM, running for six weeks.

Show Synopsis: The series follows four young, new lawyers from diverse backgrounds as they enter one of the most prestigious law firms in Los Angeles, Sterling Law. Their boss is Cliff Huddle (Billy Zane, Titanic) is also known as The Prince of Darkness; but when Hart Sterling (Clancy Brown, Earth 2) returns after a long hiatus, he’s ready to shake things up. Co-stars Matt Long (Jack and Bobby), Ben Lawson (the Australian series Neighbours), Tina Majorino (Veronica Mars), Norbert Leo Butz (Comanche Moon), Leah Pipes (Life Is Wild), Sherri Saum (In Treatment), Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) and Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight franchise).

January 21 – The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural are back on the CW at 8 PM and 9 PM

January 22 – Caprica will debut on Syfy at 9 PM with a two-hour premiere

Show Synopsis: Set 58 years before Battlestar Galactica, Caprica follows two rival families – the Graystones and the Adamas – as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the peaceful 12 Colonies, living in a society close to our own. Entangled in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe, blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. The series stars Eric Stoltz (Mask), Esai Morales (NYPD Blue), Paula Malcomson (Deadwood), Polly Walker (Rome), Madga Apanowicz (Kyle XY) and newcomer Alessandra Torresani.

January 23 – The Lifetime movie The Pregnancy Pact will air at 9 PM

Movie Synopsis: The movie is loosely inspired by the news from 2008 that 17 girls at Gloucester High School in Massachusetts apparently agreed to get pregnant at the same time — and succeeded. What actually caused the baby boom has been fiercely debated — with some blaming the lack of contraception in schools and others blaming the lack of abstinence education. The movie stars Thora Birch (American Beauty), Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer and The Practice) and Nancy Travis (Becker).

January 23 – The Hallmark Channel movie Ice Dreams will debut at 9 PM

Movie Synopsis: Fourteen years after a tragic accident, former Olympic figure skater Amy Clayton (Jessica Cauffiel) agrees to coach a young student. In doing so, she must face the demons of her past and embark upon a journey of healing her shattered life and broken relationships. The movie also stars Brady Smith, Jerry Stiller and Shelley Long.

January 24 – Masterpiece Classic on PBS will air a new version of the Jane Austen classic Emma, starring Romola Garai in the lead role and Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone) as Mr. Knightley. Check your local listings for exact airdate, channel and time.

Movie Synopsis: Based on the adaptation of the popular novel by Sarah Strohmeyer, Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace) is Nolan Devlin an unassuming, frumpy magazine editor by day who is overlooked and teased by her coworkers. When the sun sets, though, and she is behind the glow and anonymity of her computer screen, she becomes the famous and “reclusive” advice columnist Belinda Apple. Nola’s friends, tired of being overworked and overweight, band together to create the “Cinderella Pact,” vowing to lose pounds by following the advice of their “fairy godmother,” Apple. When her secret identity is threatened, Nola is forced to take her own alter ego’s advice. But, as the group of friends begins to drop dress sizes, their real issues are exposed, and better-than-expected life changes begin to blossom for them all. January 30 – The Syfy movie Meteor Storm will premiere at 9 PM

Movie Synopsis: A scientist (Kari Matchett) discovers the remnants of an ancient meteor strike and is in a race against the clock to save San Francisco and the world. Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica) and Eric Johnson (Smallville and Flash Gordon) co-star.

FEBRUARY

February 2 – Lost will have a one-hour recap on ABC at 8 PM
February 2 – Lost will have its final two-hour season premiere on ABC at 9 PM

February 4 – Fringe will have its winter finale on FOX at 9 PM

February 5 – Smallville will air its special two-hour Justice Society movie Absolute Justice on the CW at 8 PM

February 6 – The movie Temple Grandin will air on HBO (check local listings for time)

Movie Synopsis: Starring Claire Danes in the lead role based on the true story of best-selling author, animal scientist and autism advocate, whose own autism affords her uncanny powers of observation. The movie also stars Catherine O’Hara, Julia Ormond and David Strathairn.

February 6 – The Lifetime Movie Network movie Sins of the Mother at 8 PM

Movie Synopsis: Based on the novel Orange Mint and Honey by Carleen Brice, Jill Scott (The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency) revolves around a grad student who returns home to face her abusive, alcoholic mother — played by Scott — only to discover that her mom is sober and has a 3-year-old daughter and a new life. Nicole Beharie (American Violet) co-stars.

February 8 – Heroes will have its season finale on NBC at 9 PM

February 9 – Past Life will have its one-hour debut on FOX at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: This new drama is about an unlikely pair of past-life detectives (Kelli Giddish, All My Children and Nicholas Bishop, Home and Away) who investigate whether what is happening to you today is the result of who you were before. Co-stars include Richard Schiff (The West Wing) and Ravi Patel (Scrubs).

Show Synopsis: FX has picked up this new series for a 13-episode run, which is about modern day 19th century-style lawman U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. He ends up reassigned to the district that includes his rural Kentucky hometown. Co-stars include Nick Searcy (CSI), Jacob Pitts (21) and Erica Tazel (Life). Movie Synopsis: The unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President Bill Clinton will be depicted with Michael Sheen as Blair and Dennis Quaid as Clinton. The film also Hope Davis and Helen McCrory.

Show Synopsis: Wendell Pierce (The Wire) stars as a trombonist trying to make ends meet in a struggling music scene; Khandi Alexander (CSI: Miami) will play his ex-wife, who owns a bar; Clarke Peters (The Wire) is the chief of a tribe of Mardi Gras Indians who returns to New Orleans to rebuild his home and culture; Rob Brown (Stop-Loss) as his son, a well-known musician; Steve Zahn (Sahara) as a DJ and music scene regular; Kim Dickens (Friday Night Lights) as a chef trying to keep her restaurant afloat; Melissa Leo (Homicide: Life on the Street) as a civil rights lawyer and John Goodman (Roseanne) as an outspoken professor. All these characters appear in this series that explores the lives of residents of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Copper will be a new series on ABC

Show Synopsis: This Canadian drama about five rookie cops at work and at play has been picked up for a 13-episode run on ABC; and will star Eric Johnson (Smallville and Flash Gordon), Gregory Smith (Everwood) and Missy Peregrym (Reaper).

The Bridge will be a new series on CBS

Show Synopsis: This is another Canadian drama about a tough and dedicated police officer who is voted to become the police union’s dynamic leader, which was picked up for an 11-episode order by CBS. The series will star Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica), Ona Grauer (Stargate Universe) and Paul Popowich (Angela’s Eyes).

Day One will be a mini-series on NBC (rather than an originally planned new series)

Show Synopsis: In the aftermath of a global event that devastates the world’s infrastructures, a small band of survivors strive to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took place and what the future has in store. Told from the point of view of an eclectic group of neighbors in a Van Nuys, California apartment building, this journey of survival will show us that hope is found in the smallest of victories and heroes are born every day. The series stars David Lyons (ER), Julie Gonzalo (Eli Stone and Veronica Mars), Adam Campbell (Harper’s Island), Carly Pope (Popular, Dirt and 24), Catherine Dent (The Shield), April Grace (The Nine), Xander Berkeley (24), Derek Mio (Greek), Thekla Reuten (Sleeper Cell) and Addison Timlin (Cashmere Mafia).

Persons Unknown will be a new series on NBC

Show Synopsis: This Mexican-produced series was picked up for a 13-episode run by NBC and follows a group of people who awaken in a deserted town with no memory of how they got there, and cannot leave. They are watched by security cameras, and are occasionally fed information via remote-controlled televisions. No matter what they try, their attempts to escape the town are thwarted by mysterious forces. The series stars newcomer Daisy Betts, Jason Wiles (Third Watch), Sean O’Bryan (Yes Man and Six Feet Under), Alan Ruck (Spin City) and Chadwick Boseman (Lincoln Heights). James Read (Charmed) and Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica) are set to guest star.

The Syfy movie Riverworld (based on the Philip Jose Farmer classic) has yet to receive an air date, but the mini-series will cover the same basic storyline: about people who’ve died and wake up very much alive along a seemingly endless river, finding everyone else who has ever lived and died on Earth also there. The main stars are Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse) and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville and V).
