Burbank, CA (March 30, 2009) – Melissa Joan Hart, who starred in “Holiday in Handcuffs,” ABC Family’s highest rated telecast ever, and Joey Lawrence (“Dancing with the Stars”) star in the fun, romantic comedy about two people who decide to get married for the money and gifts. RSVP to the funniest wedding of the year, “My Fake Fiancé,” premieres SUNDAY, APRIL 19 (8:00-10:00p.m., ET), on ABC Family.
In “My Fake Fiancé,” oil and water get along better than Jennifer (Melissa Joan Hart) and Vince (Joey Lawrence) who are seated together at a wedding and have an immediate and passionate dislike for one another. Jennifer is a smart, sarcastic go-getter, with a penchant for burning through boyfriends, while Vince is a fringe-dwelling ladies man and bad gambler who gets by more on charm and wits then on any discernable skill set. The one thing they have in common, however, is shock and awe at the haul of presents and cash the bride and groom rake in as wedding gifts. That common thread will bring them together within a week when both have a dire need – Vince for cash to pay off a loan shark, Monkey (Steve Schirripa), and Jennifer for stuff to fill her new home after her moving van is stolen.
The cash-strapped duo hatch the perfect plan – fake a relationship, engagement and quickie wedding. He’ll get the money, she’ll keep the house wares, and they only have to stay together long enough to make it look authentic. Of course convincing everyone that they’re not rushing to the altar because she’s pregnant is one thing, but convincing the families they’re really in love is entirely more challenging. Jennifer’s parents drink the wedding Kool-Aid and decide to pay for the wedding (so much for a no-cost “We eloped!” announcement) and the pending nuptials draw Vince’s deadbeat Dad back into his life. Jennifer gets into being a bride and planning a wedding, and Vince finds himself remembering what it feels like to be a part of a family. Just as true love never runs smoothly, neither does true distain and despite their mutual commitment to fraud, these two unlikely partners begin to soften towards each other. Could love really be in the air?
Also starring are Nicole Tubiola (“Wildfire”) as Courtney, Diane Neal (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) as Bonnie and Steve Schirripa (“The Sopranos,” “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) as Monkey.
“My Fake Fiancé” was written by Howard March and directed by Gil Junger (“Greek”). Paula Hart, Tom Nunan and Melissa Joan Hart serve as executive producers and produced by Craig McNeil.
