Tom SchanleyThis week’s Nice Boy fell into our laps as a very pleasant surprise. Tom Schanley is scheduled to appear in the next episode of Castle entitled The Mistress Always Spanks Twice. In this epsidoe, William Carraway, played by Schanley, becomes a suspect when one of his known sexual “turn-ons” matches the evidence in the homicide of a New York dominatrix.

As an Actor, Tom Schanley is known mostly for his work in television, on shows like Criminal Minds, Dexter and the CSI’s, but he has also had the privilege of working with some of the cinematic icons of our time:  Academy Award winning director Ed Zwick and Denzel Washington in Courage Under Fire,  Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts in Conspiracy Theory among others.   Along with his writing partner Jon Lindstrom, Tom wrote and executive produced the feature film The Hard Easy, starring David Boreanaz, Bruce Dern and Vera Farmiga.

Watch Tom on Castle, Monday, Mar. 8, 10/9 central, on ABC.

Ben McKenzie

Ben McKenzie

With the premiere of SouthLAnd’s second season on TNT, how could we not vote for Ben McKenzie as our Nice Boy for this week? Ben plays Officer Ben Sherman on SouthLAnd, but he is best known for his role as Ryan Atwood on The O.C. He appeared in 88 Minutes in 2007 and in 2005 made his feature film debut in Junebug, with Amy Adams. Other television credits include JAG and The District.

Ben garnered multiple Teen Choice Awards for his role on The O.C., as well as the Amanda Award for Outstanding Performance in Feature Film: Junebug and BRAVO Gold Otto (Germany) for Best Male Actor: The O.C.

Although Ben majored in Economics and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia, he got into acting during his first few years there. He moved to New York where acting opportunities were more numerous, and landed a role in the off-Broadway play Life Is A Dream. From there, Ben moved to L.A. and began his O.C. days. The rest is history.

Nice Boy of the Week: Kristoffer Polaha

Kristoffer Polaha

Kristoffer Polaha

This week’s Nice Boy is not really a new face in TV Land, but with his role as Nate “Baze” Bazile on the CW’s Life Unexpected, he’s certainly becoming the most memorable.

Kristoffer was born in Reno, Nevada, and became interested in acting while attending Robert Louis Stevenson boarding school in Pebble Beach CA. He graduated from NYU’s “Tisch School Of Arts” earning a bachelor of arts in 99.

Most recently from Mad Men, Kristoffer has also appeared in North Shore, Miss Guided, Dollhouse, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bones, Better Off Ted, CSI:Miami, Without A Trace, Close To Home, Roswell and Tru Calling.

Polaha’s character on Life Unexpected is a very carefree, playful, single guy who is suddenly faced with a teenage daughter, beautifully played by Britt Robertson. As we watch “Baze” dealing with fatherhood, we see Polaha skillfully pulling us into his emotional storm; at one time making us laugh and cry. Lux connects with him faster than her birth mother largely, I think, because he’s such a child himself.

Polaha is married to actress Julianne Morris and they have two small boys, Kristoffer Caleb Polaha, Jr. and Micah.

Paul Wesley plays Stefan on The Vampire Diaries

Paul Wesley plays Stefan on "The Vampire Diaries"

Our choice for Nice Boy this week is The Vampire Diaries’ very own Paul Wesley. You didn’t really think we’d have one brother and not the other, did you?

In case you didn’t know, Paul plays Stefan Salvatore on the popular CW hit series, The Vampire Diaries. Since his days on The Guiding Light, Paul has appeared in television shows such as Smallville, The O.C., 8 Simple Rules, 24, Army Wives, Everwood and Law & Order:SVU. Paul also played the lead in the ABC Family mini-series, Fallen.

Born Paul Thomas Wasilewski , Paul changed his name when he realized he could make a career in acting. Says Paul, “Wasilewski was too hard to pronounce. I asked my family’s permission to change it.”

Wasilewski or Wesley, we don’t care. He’s still a Nice Boy to us!

Matt Long

Matt Long

Matt Long has the honor of being the first Nice Boy of 2010! Matt is going to be appearing in an upcoming new series on ABC, The Deep End. This show looks like it could be a lot of fun and I hope it does well, because it’s good to see Matt back on our TV screens.

Matt’s previous television series, Jack & Bobby, ended five years ago (although you can still watch episodes on theWB.com), but he’s kept busy, appearing in Ghost Rider as the young Johnny Blaze, and playing Tyler Prince in Sydney White, a film based on the Snow White story and starring Amanda Bynes.

Catch Matt in The Deep End, premiering January 21, on ABC.

Peter Krause in Parenthood

Peter Krause in "Parenthood"

This week’s Nice Boy has been around for quite a while making a name for himself in front of the camera as well as behind it. Peter Krause is best known for his role on Six Feet Under and more recently, Dirty Sexy Money, which he also produced. He’s appeared in numerous television shows and films such as Lovelife, Melting Pot and The Truman Show. Peter is still acting on stage in Los Angeles, where he currently resides, honing his craft and directing in several Los Angeles theater companies.

You can catch Peter in the mid-season series Parenthood, due to premiere March 1, 2010, on NBC.

Corey Reynolds is Sgt. David Gabriel in The Closer

Corey Reynolds is Sgt. David Gabriel in "The Closer"

As fans of the hot TNT crime series The Closer know, Sgt. Gabriel is the one team member that Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) always seemed to take an interest in. In fact, she appears to mentor him much of the time. We’ve taken an interest in him as well. So, although it’s a bit late this week, give it up for our new Nice Boy of the Week, Corey Reynolds.

Hailng from Richmond, Virginia, Corey burst on the scene with his role as Seaweed in the Broadway hit, Hairspray, earning for himself a Tony Award nomination and a nom for Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Corey has appeared in roles on Without A Trace, The Guardian, CSI: Miami, Navy NCIS and Private Practice, as well as the film The Terminal.

Keep your eyes on this talented cutie. He’s only just beginning!

Nice Boy of the Week: Tim DeKay

Please join us in congratulating our first Nice Boy in December, Tim DeKay! Tim has become a favorite with Nice Girls since USA’s White Collar became such a hit. His character is paired so perfectly with Matt Bomer’s Neal Caffrey.

Theater-goers are well acquainted with Tim’s work on the stage. On Broadway, he was seen in The Show-Off; off Broadway, in Billy Budd; touring in The Lion in Winter. Tim has appeared in local theaters in such shows as Burning Blue, Someone to Watch Over Me and Star Fever.

Tim’s feature credits include Get Smart, The Chumscrubber, Walkout, The Peaceful Warrior and Control. Television credits include Brothers & Sisters, The New Adventures of Old Christine, My Name Is Earl, Everwood, Party of Five and Seinfeld. He has also guest starred on CSI, Without A Trace and Friends.

Married with two children, Tim’s life is anything but dull. I think I like him best as Peter Burke in White Collar. First impressions had us believing that Peter was a hard-nosed, strictly by-the-book, FBI agent, but I think Neal Caffrey’s charm, sense of humor and easy-going personality are softening the veteran agent up more than he’d like to admit.

Tim plays a tough guy, but here, he’s every bit the Nice Boy.

Nice Boy of the Week: Craig Parker

Craig Parker is Darken Rahl on Legend of the Seeker

Craig Parker is 'Darken Rahl' on "Legend of the Seeker"

This week’s Nice Boy is no stranger to a couple Nice Girls here. Melissa and I first saw him in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, where his character met his demise, much to our dismay. Although, many do not know this, but Craig appeared briefly in the last of that trilogy, The Return of the King, but in voice only. He was the voice of Gothmog, the orc leader that lead the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Who knew?

Craig is a New Zealand actor, famous for his role as Haldir in LOTR and as Alistaire Kingsley in Mercy Peak. He does voice-overs for many New Zealand documentaries and has also lent his voice to the Power Rangers series since it moved filming to New Zealand. He is currently starring in the TVNZ soap, Shortland Street, and can be seen in the upcoming Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Craig is a busy boy!

Craig’s movie credits, besides LOTR, include Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Weekend Lovers and early on, he appeared in a small role in Stephen King’s Tommyknockers. Television credits, other than voice-overs, list Diplomatic Immunity, Xena: Warrior Princess and, of course our current favorite, Legend of the Seeker.

Craig never lets his fans down and frequently appears at LOTR conventions, particularly Ring-Con in Germany, which he has attended every year since its creation in 2002. He’s sweet and  wonderfully talented, with quite the sense of humor. All characteristics of a Nice Boy!

Nice Boy of the Week: Kerr Smith

Kerr Smith

Kerr Smith

Please join us in congratulating our new Nice Boy of the Week, Kerr Smith! Kerr is part of the cast of the mid-season, CW series, Life UneXpected, premiering in January.

Kerr began his career in acting on the popular soap, As the World Turns from 1996 – 97. Most know him from his role as ‘Jack McPhee’ in the second season of Dawson’s Creek. His youthful looks allowed him to play a 16 year-old at the age of twenty-six. I wonder how many knew that!

Kerr went on to appear in such television shows as Eli Stone, CSI-NY, Charmed, Justice and The Forgotten. His movie credits include My Bloody Valentine, Final Destination, Cruel Intentions 3 and The Forsaken, to list a few.

Life UneXpected is being compared to Gilmore Girls in the sense that it provides witty humor and heart-warming drama. The show centers on a teen named Lux (Britt Robertson) that tracks down her biological parents: Cate (Shiri Appleby), a talk radio personality, and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha), a bar owner.
They haven’t seen each other since high school and, in many ways, Lux is more mature than the adults that brought her into the world. Kerr plays Cate’s fiance, Ryan Thomas.

Nice Girls will be watching Kerr in Life UneXpected, and we thought that making him a Nice Boy of the Week would be a great way to get the ball rolling.

Watch Life UneXpected beginning January 18, taking over for Gossip Girl on the CW.
