Women of the Week

By  |

Sure the majority of our favorite shows have wrapped up for the season but summer TV can be full of gems, which is why we’ve decided to continue our Women of the Week picks during the non-ratings period this year. Who has wowed us this past week? Read on to find out!

Nominated by Ange: Meghann Fahy as Sutton Brady on The Bold Type

My pick this week is Sutton Brady played by Meghann Fahy on The Bold Type. Not only did Sutton stand up to her petty slut-shaming colleagues and put them in their place by defending herself and also kicking ass assisting in  various shoots, but she also made the tough decision of putting her career before romance when she chose not to go public with Richard. She decided to bet on her career and trusted that if things were meant to be with Richard, they’ll work themselves out in the long run despite how painful it may be in the meantime.

Nominated by Rueben: Maddie Hasson as Henrietta “Henry” Coles in Impulse

The streaming series Impulse (on YouTube Red) debuted last week (June 7), but I didn’t get to watch most of the episodes until this week. Maddie Hasson, who plays the lead role of Henrietta “Henry” Coles, was nothing short of revelatory to me. I knew she was a talented actress, as I have seen her in other projects, but the level of emotions she displayed in this new series was pretty damn amazing. She played a loner, troubled girl who suffered from seizures; but those seizures are actually tied to something so much more. Henry is actually a teleporter (an ability later believed to be inherited from her long MIA father), and watching her struggle with that, dealing with her medical condition, as well as the horrors of a sexual assault, let just say it was eye-opening to watch her in the 10-episodes. I hope the show gets a second season because the final episode left a pretty big cliffhanger and lots of unanswered question. Maddie was just terrific in this new show.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
