ONE CHICAGO Women: Chicago Fire 5×04, Chicago P.D. 4×06, Chicago Med 2×07 & 2×08 recap

By  |

It’s been an intense two weeks and as per usual there’s been a lot happening in the ONE CHICAGO world, especially as we head into the fall finales. Read on to find out what happened with the leading ladies of Chicago FireChicago P.D.and Chicago Med these past two weeks.

Gabriela Dawson: Last week Dawson was ruffling feathers around her, but her she wouldn’t be Dawson if she didn’t! First she wasn’t impressed when Casey told her she couldn’t pick up Louie (he wasn’t working this shift because he was taking care of alderman duties) because he had a golf date – alderman duties call! You don’t want to mess with Gabby and Casey agreed that he could play golf another time so that he could pick up Louie later that day. However, when Dawson received a phone call from the child care center later that day that Casey hadn’t picked up Louie, she was annoyed. The frustration soon turned to concern when she couldn’t reach him and with good reason. It turns out while on an alderman inspection to warehouse, one of the workers accidentally pierced a tank storing acid and it caused a extremely hazardous spill – I’m talking a man basically being eaten alive by the chemicals being knocked out by the fumes. With no escape, Casey and a father and daughter hid in a breakroom waiting for help. As the fumes and liquid started to travel, things weren’t looking good but thankfully the Firehouse 51 team arrived in time to save the day! While all this was happening, Dawson and Brett had also responded to a call where an elderly woman had felt light-headed. Also on the scene was a senior citizens advocate who accused the paramedics of trying to bully the woman into going to the hospital. Dawson tried to fight the representative but the paramedics ended up leaving the premises against their better judgement. It’s not long before they’re called back to the residence and the woman has to be taken to hospital. Dawson and Brett plan to take her to Med but she wants to be taken to another hospital a further 10 minutes away. The advocate wants again steps in but Dawson has had enough of her interference and when the woman tries to call her boss to pull rank on Dawson, the hot-headed paramedic throws the phone to the ground. And so of course the woman makes a complaint against Dawson and paramedic duo are called into Boden’s office. Brett stands by Dawson but afterwards tells her never to put her in such a difficult position again.

Sylvie Brett: Brett and Mouch’s romance novel project is still a go and they even have a meeting with a publisher who is keen to get them printed, but once they meet with him, they realize he’s a bit dodgy and so it’s back to square one. When tension happens between Brett and Dawson on a call – more on that later – Brett is inspired to write that into their story… which Mouch interprets as ‘let’s create a lesbian storyline’. It takes a while for Brett to come around and when she texts her blessing to Mouch, it’s intercepted by his wife Trudy Platt and you can imagine what she must think not knowing the truth! Luckily, Brett is able to calm her down and Platt even offers to help them out with a contact. Elsewhere in this ep, Brett’s ambo partner Dawson gets a bit hot-headed on a call and the pair are reprimanded. Brett has Dawson’s back but warns her not to put her in an uncomfortable professional position again – Dawson may like bending the rules but Brett prefers to follow them.

Stella Kidd: After the last few weeks, this episode is a bit Kidd-light. When fellow truck member Otis shares with the house that he is one of 100 people selected as potential candidates for an expedition to Mars, everyone apart from Cruz, think it’s a joke and poke fun of him as he does tasks to help him prepare. The Truck team also race against time to get the power shut down when they arrive to the warehouse scene that has Casey trapped.

Erin Lindsay: While there was no new episode of Chicago P.D. last week due to the World Series (which we’ll accept because Go Cubs!), we still got our weekly dose of Lindsay with the detective popping up on Chicago Med these past two weeks, helping Dr Sarah Reese with her patient Danny, who was being used as a trafficker. Lindsay’s hands were tied as Danny was too scared to talk to her but she told Reese that the moment he’s ready to talk, she’d get Intelligence to step in. Sadly, Danny fled Chicago Med and his body was later found. In the Chicago P.D. world, Lindsay received a mysterious delivery of flowers (daisies – her favorite) at work, which weren’t from her partner/boyfriend. (Halsetead was all cute trying to find out who’s sending flowers to his girl!) She also received a mysterious phone call with no one speaking on the other line. Halstead did some digging and traced them back to Kansas. She remembers her mother mentioning once that her dad was in prison up there, so it looks like Papa Lindsay could be popping up soon. With a two-hour fall finale next week, we wouldn’t be surprised if we see him very soon…

Kim Burgess: With Tay being moved back to her former detail, Burgess has a new partner this week – Officer Mike Sorensen. The two are called to investigate a noise complaint during the night and as they check through the home of famous baseball player Jake McCoy they find the bloodied body of a young woman, leading to Intelligence’s case this week. The next day Burgess and Sorensen are called to an incident at a diner where a thief has been throwing a few punches and stealing food. When Burgess nabs the thief (who also takes a swing at her new partner) and does some digging, she’s shocked to find that the woman is a cop. Burgess’s bleeding heart complex mans that she wants to help her but the stranger doesn’t want any help. Eventually Burgess wears her down and she opens up to her in a cell.

Trudy Platt: It was only a matter of time before Platt found out about her husband Mouch’s partnership with paramedic Brett and she finally did on last week’s Fire after finding a seemingly suggestive text on Mouch’s phone. She storms Molly’s in search of the pair, but Brett manages to calm her down when she reveals the truth. Instead, Platt turns to her husband asking why he didn’t tell her before seeing as she has told him she has a contact in the publishing biz. Oh Mouch! On P.D., Burgess’s new partner is brown-nosing up to Platt much to Burgess’s displeasure, especially since Platt remains her usual self more than ever at Burgess.

CHICAGO MED -- "Free Will" Episode 208 -- Pictured: (l-r) S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Brian Tee as Ethan Choi -- (Photo by: Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

CHICAGO MED — “Free Will” Episode 208 — Pictured: (l-r) S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Brian Tee as Ethan Choi — (Photo by: Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Sharon Goodwin: Last week’s episode had Goodwin in the spotlight when her high school sweetheart and first love Reggie was admitted to Med. We saw a different side to Goodwin as she flirted with Reggie before his condition suddenly became much more serious. For someone who has previously advised her staff not to get too involved with cases and patients, the shoe was on the other foot with Goodwin when the chief administrator commanded Dr Choi and Dr Manning to do whatever they could to save her ex-love from the parasites that were eating him inside, despite their better judgement. Sadly, it was too late for Reggie and he passed away. This week, it was back to business with Goodwin dealing with Manning and Halstead’s tricky case involving a man in need of a kidney transplant and his HIV positive brother, as well as advising Dr Choi when he was less than impressed about having to treat a convict.

Maggie Lockwood: We can always count on Maggie for keeping things real and that’s what she did last week when April announced her engagement to Tate. After questioning whether April had discussed important future issues with Tate, her frustrated friend gave Maggie the cold shoulder for the rest of the episode. Maggie did apologize, but it did seem like that April wasn’t 100% convinced. All that was put on hold this week though with April’s TB flaring up, so Maggie was there pledging her support if April needed anything.

Dr Natalie Manning: Last week we saw Nat team up with Dr Choi to try and save Goodwin’s first love and I have to say it was really nice to see these two doctors have scenes together and I hope that we get to see more in the future. This week we saw her work with (Dr not detective) Halstead on a case involving a patient who needed a kidney transplant and his brother being a perfect match… who unbeknownst to the sick brother was HIV positive. Once the truth was revealed and patient agreed to receive it, Halstead refused to perform the operation on legalities, but he and Nat ended up coming up with a way to work around it. I have to say it’s nice to see these two working together so nicely and without the love dramas of last season hanging over them and affecting their work. I don’t know if I’m speaking too soon though, as there have definitely been some lingering glances between these two despite him moving in with his new girlfriend and she seemingly in a good place with her beau Jeff Clarke. Time will tell. (Side note, now that we know Will sings and plays guitar, how about a performance between these two one day?)

April Sexton: After months of thinking about it, April finally said yes to Tate’s proposal and he happily presented her with one heck of a rock! While everyone around April was happy for her, Maggie had her questions, which dampened the mood for April. By the end of the ep Maggie apologised, but April had more important things to worry about when she had a coughing fit at her engagement celebrations at Molly’s. This week it was revealed that not only has her TB flared up but also April is pregnant! (And yes Tate is happy about this.) Halstead informed her that they could treat the TB but it could affect her unborn child, leaving her hesitant to try it, much to her brother’s frustration. It was nice to see more of the sibling bond between the brother and sister. (Plus nice to see Noah not causing trouble in the workplace or outside of it, ha!) We hope that April will be okay and so will her unborn baby. With this week’s ep being the show’s fall finale, we’ll have to wait until next year to find out.

Dr Sarah Reese: If you had told me a year ago that I would seriously be invested in Reese’s storylines, I would have laughed. (No offence) Now I find her to be one of the most interesting characters on the show – moving her to Psychiatry and teaming her up with Dr Charles was a genius move. Last week, she continued to help trafficking victim and even called in P.D.’s Lindsay to help out. However, after he was booted from the shelter and was leaving in fear that his former handlers would find him, he asked Reese if he could stay with her. She hesitantly said no, well aware of the consequences of not setting boundaries with a patient but then later changed her mind, only to find that he fled from the hospital. The episode ended with her searching for him with the help of Dr Choi. This week we see her continuing to search for him and it’s clearly taking its toll on her with Dr Choi convincing her that they have to go to work. Her boyfriend Joey is clearly at a loss with how to deal with her and does his best to remain patient with her. Eventually Lindsay shows up to reveal that they found Danny’s body. Reese goes with her to identify his brutally beaten body. In the aftermath, Reese lames herself for his death and cries that she didn’t do enough to help him. Both Joey and Dr Charles try their best to console her but we feel like this is going to haunt her for a while.

Shout Outs of the Week: The Med ladies are killing it at the moment! For last week, I’m giving the shout out to Sharon Goodwin. It was heartbreaking to see this usually strong authority figure pleading with her doctors to fight for her former love, when if it had been anyone else she would have reacted differently. Then for these past two weeks, I’d like to also acknowledge April and Dr Sarah Reese. They’re going through some serious stuff right now and knocking it out of the park!
