POLDARK: Shocking News in Episode Four {Recap}

By  |

Poldark skipped ahead in the lives of all those we care about a year just before ramping up the angst for all those in Cornwall.

Let’s not sugarcoat the end of the episode. Francis (Kyle Soller) died as a result of looking for more cooper in the Wheal Grace mine without anyone else there to help him. To foreshadow this the start of the episode had a young Ross and Francis playing at the waves and then as Francis is alone in the water with no means of escape, Francis remembers one time when Ross (Aidan Tuner) saved him from the water.

This time, Ross was too late.

Timing of Francis’ death can’t come at a worse time, however. George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) now owns the loan that Ross took out years ago. George has been trying to work his way into Ross’ business affairs for years now, and the animosity between them is well known since the trial. George also owns all of the land that Francis and Elizabeth (Heida Reed) live on. How can George use all of his wealth and power over a grieving Elizabeth and Ross at the same time?

Nothing looks good at the end of the episode, that’s for sure. Ross and Elizabeth are mourning, but that’s not all that they’ve been dealing with. Elizabeth had been adamant that she could love two men at once (Francis and Ross), and in light of the devastating way Francis died, will she still look to Francis for comfort and support or will she shut herself away from Ross and Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson)?

Hopefully there will be answers next week on Poldark.

Check back next week at this time for more of Roz’s thoughts on this season of Poldark.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
