Rueben's Ramblings

Happy Thanksgiving 2018

By  |

It’s that time of year, again – can you believe it’s nearly the end of November already? – to give thanks for all those things that we have valued throughout the year. And since we are NiceGirls it only makes sense that those “things” are TV related.

So without further ado, here is my list for 2018:

1. Poldark and Outlander – We fans of these two memorable period piece dramas had to wait until September and earlier this month for both shows to return for new seasons, but it was sure worth the wait.

Ross and Demelza Poldark, their families and neighbors have gone through quite a lot in the past season [the season finale just aired on PBS on November 18 in fact] – from losing a child, to losing a dear friend, to upholding their beliefs and to seeing a couple who were meant to be together finally marry.

Jamie and Claire Fraser are now in America, attempting to start a new life there with their young nephew Ian, adopted son Fergus and his new bride Marsali. While their daughter Brianna – in 1970’s Boston – is in a rocky relationship with boyfriend Roger.

2. Streaming Services – There are SO many online services now like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and even the networks getting into the game with services like Hallmark Movies Now and CBS All Access, it’s amazing to have all those viewing options. This year it’s been especially nice to enjoy the rom-com movies on Netflix – such as To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – and the online web series Emma Approved Revival.

3. The Magicians – The out-of-this-world Syfy series really knows how to push the envelope, having a remarkable season this past spring with a new season set to return this coming January, finding all of our magicians living very different lives and Eliot not quite himself.

4. Younger – This under-the-radar TV Land dramedy aired its 5th season this summer, and finally gave the fans what they’ve been waiting for: Liza and Charles together. We waited a long time, but it was worth the wait.

5. 12 Monkeys – While the show came to an end over the summer, what an incredible ride that final season gave viewers, finding Cole and Cassie as well as the rest of the main characters together in a non-apocalyptic future and lots of questions finally answered. Thanks for an amazing 4 seasons.

6. Private Eyes – This Jason Priestley-led drama is a big hit in its home country of Canada and has been a lot of fun to watch here in the States. It’s one of those fun-to-watch shows that is appointment TV.

What are you most thankful for this TV season? Please share!

Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate the holiday!
