VIKINGS 3.09 – ‘Breaking Point’ Ragnar’s Betrayal Cuts Deep

By  |

VikingsLagerthaRagnar is pissing blood while Floki pouts like a champ. Lagertha on the other hand, leads the night raid with her fellow shield maidens as back up. The ladies are foiled by hot oil and when the French retaliate with t medieval spiked steam roller from hell!

The whole thing was rather impressive ordeal. I don’t blame Floki in the least for running when that thing was released! Thankfully Rollo stepped in to save the day, but it was all to no avail. The Northmen were once again forced to retreat.

Vikings_MyPreciousRagnar solidified my opinion of his likeness to Smeagoul. Seeing him stand there enthralled by the city was a sight to behold. In his injured state it’s no wonder Athelstan visited him in a fever dream. The incident only reinforced the Viking Kings resolve.

In Wessex Ecbert takes Judith as his mistress and is saddened to learn his son survived his mission with Princess Kwenthrith. Athelwulf confronts his father regarding his deceitful behavior Ecbert’s reaction was priceless. I swear that dude believes his own lies. His should win an Emmy for that shocked and hurt reaction!

Vikings309_Gisla21The French may have won the day, but the war is still in question. They were successful in capturing Ragnar’s pet wanderer and Sigfreid. The Mountain that is Earl Sigfreid wound up with his head on a spike but not before getting one final laugh.

The King sends word through Ragnar’s wanderer that he wishes to negotiate. When the French envoy leave, the Viking King makes his intentions crystal clear regarding Paris. “I will not move.”

VIKINGS 309_trio1The Viking King surprises everyone and meets with the King himself. He makes a demand that leaves his countrymen astonished. He asks for, and receives baptisim! Ragnar believes he is dying and is determined to be reunited with Athelstan in death as they were in life. Will those closest to him remain loyal after what could be considered the ultimate betrayal?

Observations:

• Ragnar is an expert in “The Long Game. I am anxious to see what he has planned.
• Aslaug is not one for sentiment. She didn’t bat an eyelash in killing the Christian.
• I can not imagine that Ragnar would actually die, but damn, he sure is suffering!
• I predict Rollo and Princess Gisla will be a match.
