Comic Con

Going to Comic Con 2014

By  |

This year will mark my 12th straight year attending the annual pop culture event known as San Diego Comic Con; and this time around NiceGirls Media will have the biggest contingency of staff attending than ever before, representing its websites NiceGirlsTV, the Fairy Tale site and TrueBlood.net. And just like last year, we will be renting an amazing house located about a mile from the convention center, allowing us a wonderful haven for the week.

On the first day of the event, we will make the trek to the convention center to get our press badges and then take in preview night, which consists of early admission to the exhibition hall where all of the vendors, artists, fan tables, networks and studios have their booths as well as the screenings of several new WB series, including The Flash, Constantine and iZOMBIE.

It is on Thursday, though, that the real actions begins with the first full day of panels. It is my hope this year to check out panels for 24, Under the Dome, the new fall series Scorpion, Reign, Teen Wolf and Witches of East End. I should be able to finish off the day with the annual panel by the folks at Simon & Schuster, who will present in inside look at their upcoming books.

Moving over to Friday, my day should be filled with panels for the TV shows Resurrection, the upcoming drama Outlander (based on the Diana Gabaldon best-selling novel) and The 100 as well as a panel featuring Lost star Evangeline Lilly, who will be introducing her first children’s book. And if all goes well, NiceGirl Mynda and I will be bringing you coverage of the red carpet world premiere event of Outlander. [Insert Fangirl Squee Here!!]

Saturday is typically the busiest and most-attended day of the convention with an average of 130,000 attendees hitting the convention center and the surrounding hotels for all of the panels and extras scheduled throughout the day. As of right now, my plan is to take in the panels for Once Upon a Time and The Blacklist as well as the annual salute to TV Favorites hosted by the folks at TV Guide. I will hopefully also be hitting up the panel saluting fan favorite actor John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Arrow and Desperate Housewives) and a panel that will look at the convergence of television and the internet. If all goes well, that night will be capped off with a special presentation by Warner Bros. and DC Comics that will feature Stephen Amell (star of The CW’s Arrow) as host and screenings of the pilot episodes of the new shows Gotham and The Flash as well as a sneak peek at the new fall series Constantine and a look at the third season of Arrow.

Thankfully after ALL of that activity, Sunday will be a fairly light day with my attending only one panel; a look at what is hot in young adult fiction, which is still a very booming part of the printed media business.

For those of you who will be at Comic Con 2014, have a fantastic time and make sure you are prepared in advance. But for those of you who cannot join us, please check out our Twitter feed @NiceGirlsTV as we will, once again, be doing our best to post all the craziness as it rolls out. And, please check back here at the NiceGirlsTV website (as well as the True Blood and Fairy Tale sites) for our coverage of Comic Con 2014.
