PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Bring Down the Hoe in the Red Coat

By  |

This week’s Pretty Little Liars was a bit underwhelming in my opinion. A lot of nothing happened and I’m a little surprised at that since this was the penultimate episode of the season. I really thought this time the girls would Bring Down the Hoe in the red coat.

aria-crawlspace

Aria, Spencer and Emily explore the crawlspace beneath the DiLaurentis house only to discover a button. I had hoped for more, given that we were supposed to get a “major reveal” in this episode. They also find the holes drilled into the floor of the living room and as Aria peeks through them, suddenly a knitting needle is plunged through, narrowly missing her eye.

Back in Hannah-land things are looking pretty bleak for the Marins. With Mrs. Hastings off the case Ashley is looking for a new lawyer and not having much luck. Detective Tanner visits the girls at school and tells them about the muddy shoe found in the rubble of Emily’s house. I know she’s hoping to stir up the girls enough that one  of them will actually talk to her, but it doesn’t work.

Meanwhile, Hannah discovers an envelope with lots of cash in it and a note telling her that it’s for her mother. And Hannah has a stalker. We find out later that this guy was a witness the night Wilden was shot down and he tells Hannah that her mother was gone when he heard the shots fired that killed Wilden. Unfortunately he doesn’t want to go to the police with this information because he thinks it may involve his father, who had a “history” with Wilden. Hannah finally convinces him to take his news to Tanner. Hopefully this will cast enough doubt to free Ashley from her inhibiting  jewelry.

Ali-flashback

Emily, shook up after the incident in the crawlspace, decides to pack up her things and move into Spencer’s house. As she and Spencer gather her things, a bottle of Ali’s nail polish on her dresser triggers a flashback of Ali painting Emily’s toes and telling her she needs to break up with Ben (remember him?).  She offers to “do the deed” for Em admitting that she’s done it many times before, whether the people involved wanted it or not. One person was angry enough to pull a gun on her. Now that’s what I call a big reveal!

ezra-aria

Ezra struggles with telling Aria of his problems with his son and honestly, at this point I just don’t care. He tries to talk with her at the coffee shop but Jake walks in. Later at the school dance, Jake tells Ezra to let Aria move on. But Emily tells Aria about Ezra’s problems having found them out from Ezra himself when she tries to get his opinion on a recommendation from her Haiti project.

Cece-Ezras-apt

The only thing important about all that is that Aria goes to see Ezra at his apartment and while they are talking we see Cece outside the door listening in. So I guess that was the “big reveal”, which was really not big since we pretty much already knew that Red Coat was Cece. What we don’t know is whether she’s working with A or on her own.

knitting dolls

The final shot of the episode was A knitting a sweater for new dolls she has of the girls, including Mona. As she lines them up on a table she raises a knitting needle and plunges, but the scene fades to black before we can see who her next victim is.

I think I have to give this episode only a 2 out of five knitting needles because it was so disappointing in the light of all the hype. Next week is the summer season finale and again we are promised “jaw dropping reveals”. The Pretty Little Liars finales are usually just that so I am looking forward to “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t”.
