Flashback To San Diego Comic Con: The Year of Game of Thrones

By  |

HBO’s Game of Thrones burst on the scene at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con and last year they held a pretty large presence. Of course the series already had a well established fan base because of the books by George R. R. Martin, but the writing, directing and incredible acting talents of the entire cast shot this show to fantastic heights.

I was in ballroom 20 in 2011 purely to await the True Blood panel, so I had to sit through the Game of Thrones panel as well. Having only heard of the show, I’d never read the books or watch a single episode. So I was totally unprepared for the energy from the excitement in the room. I don’t know if it was Jason Momoa‘s entrance on the stage or the final shot from the preview clip they showed. You know, the one where Daenerys Targaryen walks out of the flames with a dragon on her shoulder? But the roar from the room was deafening.

It was a fun panel and I started following the show from that day. Return with me to the last couple of years where Game of Thrones dominated the Con.
