Box Office Movie News for June 27 to July 1

Here is your box office news for the week of June 27 to July 1:

Actor Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) is in talks to star in the fantasy film The Seventh Son based on the noel by Joseph Delaney, which tells the story of a teen who learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook.

Actors Lily Cole and Sam Spruell have joined the cast of the upcoming film Snow White and the Huntsman with Cole playing Greta and Spruell plyaing Finn, a henchman who serves the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron). Finn is sent to kill both Snow White (Kristen Stewart) and the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) once the Queen learns they have joined forces.

Actor Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) will play a military general in the upcoming Superman reboot Man Of Steel.

Actress Jodie Foster is in talks to join the film adaptation of the comic book called R.I.P.D., which will star Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges as a pair of undead cops who police undead criminals causing trouble for real life people. Foster would play Proctor, the boss of Reynolds and Bridges’ undead cops.

Aussie actors Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song) and Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) are in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming film called AWOL, which is based on a true story set against the anti-war movement at the University of Michigan. Stowell plays a young soldier in Vietnam who gets dumped by his hometown girl (Aimee Teegarden) and goes AWOL with his best friend (Hemsworth). Returning to the States, he tries to win back her affections.

Actor Ray Liotta will join Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the upcoming film called A Place Beyond the Pines that follows a pro motorcycle rider (Gosling) who starts robbing banks to support his newborn son — until he crosses paths with a determined young cop (Cooper). Liotta will be playing a fierce, corrupt officer on the police force.

Actress Carey Mulligan (An Education) has joined the cast of the upcoming sci-fi film called Outback that, of course, is set in the Australian outback, but no other details have been released.

Actor David Strathairn will play William Steward, the outspoken abolitionist who was Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of State in the upcoming movie called Lincoln, which will star Daniel Day-Lewis as the nation’s 16th president and Sally Field as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. The movie is based on historian Doris Kearns Goodwin’s bestselling biography Team of Rivals.

Actor Jeff Bridges will appear in the film adaptation of the Lois Lowry novel The Giver. The story follows a 12-year-old who lives in a futuristic utopian society where all memory of human history has been erased. His life is thrown into turmoil when he is designated to inherit the role of the Giver and bear his community’s vast range of human emotions, which causes him to realize that living a pain-free life comes at a high cost.

Actor Brendan Fehr (who got his big break in the TV series Roswell) will play the lead in an independent romantic comedy called Roswell FM, playing a young man deciding between the financial needs of his family and his dream job of hosting a quirky, UFO-themed talk show in Roswell.

Actress Rosario Dawson has landed the female lead in the independent drama flick called Fire with Fire that already stars Bruce Willis, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Josh Duhamel. Additionally, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Richard Schiff, Vinnie Jones and Bonnie Sommerville have also signed on to star. The story behind the film is about a fireman in the witness protection program (Duhamel) who takes matters into his own hands when he’s threatened by the man against whom he’s set to testify.

Actress Allison Janney (The West Wing) has been cast as the mom of Chris Colfer (Glee) in the upcoming box office film called Struck by Lightning, a teen comedy that was written by Colfer. He wrote Janney’s role with her in mind. She will play Sheryl Phillips, who is searching for a way to reconnect with her son as he prepares to head off to college.

Actress Mia Maestro (Alias and the upcoming Twilight: Breaking Dawn ) has joined the cast of the box office film called Savages. She will play the wife of Benicio Del Toro’s enforcer character.

Young actor Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place) will play Huckleberry Finn in a new film adaptation of Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Young actor Joel Courtney (Super 8 ) has already been cast as Tom Sawyer.

Actor Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) is now in talks to join the upcoming film to star (and directed by) actor Ben Affleck called Argo. John Goodman and Alan Arkin also star. The film is based on a 2007 Wired article about how the CIA and the Canadian government used a fake sci-fi film called Argo to rescue six Americans hiding in a Canadian embassy during the Tehran hostage crisis. Cranston will be playing Jack O’Donnell, an Irish CIA agent from Boston and Dwight Eisenhower’s wartime bodyguard.

Actor Chris Hemsworth (Thor) will star in the upcoming thriller film Shadow Runner that involves elite commandos, but little else is known about the plot.

It looks like actors Matthew Fox (Lost) and Ed Harris will NOT be appearing in the zombie-pocalypse thriller World War Z. Fox has a scheduling conflict stemming from his prior commitment to star in I, Alex Cross with Tyler Perry. It is less clear as to why the Harris deal didn’t work out.

Model turned actress Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It) has been cast to star alongside Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez in the film adaptation of the bestseller What To Expect When You’re Expecting. She will play the perky wife of a much older man who sails through her pregnancy with twins, much to the consternation of her friends. Meanwhile, Actress Anna Kendrick (The Twilight Saga films) and actor Chris Rock have landed roles in the upcoming film What to Expect When You’re Expecting that already includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Ed Helms and Isla Fisher. Kendrick will play Rosie, a woman who reunites with an old flame and fellow food-truck owner and becomes pregnant while Rock will play the head of a group of expectant fathers who lectures them on what it’s really like to have a baby and become a father.

Actress Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will be the female lead in the box office film G.I. Joe: Cobra Sticks, playing Lady Jaye.

Actor Jason London has joined the cast of independent romantic comedy film called Roswell FM, which already stars actor Brendan Fehr (from the Roswell TV series). London will play a quirky eccentric paranormal talk show host in the film which centers around a radio station in New Mexico.
