BBC America Features a Day of Royal Programming

By  |

BBC America has planned a day of Royal programming, starting at 12PM ET. Covering the current Royal Family from Queen Elizabeth II to the next generation, Princes William and Harry and Princess-to-be Kate Middleton. Here’s the lineup.

The documentary, Art of Diana, celebrates the life and work of Princess Diana via many and varied pictures of her. Although she was the world’s most photographed woman, curiously painted portraits of Diana remain in the background. The documentary assesses the shifting function of the portrait, looks at how the images of the Princess changed over the years, and asks whether her beauty was better captured by photographers than portrait painters? Art of Diana airs on Saturday, December 11, 12:00 p.m. ET/PT and 4:00p.m. ET/PT.

All The Queen’s Horses provides exclusive access to the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which takes place every year in the Queen’s back garden. The documentary offers an inside look info life at the Castle, including interviews with staff. The Queen and Prince Philip attend the show each day, giving their view on the event and expressing a shared passion for horsemanship, revealing a warm and intimate picture of the Royal Family. All the Queen’s Horses premieres Saturday, December 11, 1:00 p.m. ET/PT and 5:00p.m. ET/PT.

Memories of a Queen follows the life of Elizabeth II as a princess, wife and monarch. From the splendor of her coronation to seeing her Windsor home go up in flames, the Queen, now in her 80s, seems indestructible.  The documentary includes footage from Her Majesty’s Jubilee and 80th birthday meeting with Barack Obama, as well as extensive segments on Prince Charles, Camilla, and Princes William and Harry. Memories of a Queen premieres Saturday, December 11, 2:00 p.m. ET/PT and 6:00p.m. ET/PT.

In this 30 minute documentary, William and Harry: The Brother Princes, the 2nd and 3rd heirs to the throne give a rare TV interview. Filmed during the Princes’ recent visit to Southern Africa, they talk to journalist Julie Etchingham about their charity work in Southern Africa and their bond as brothers. William and Harry: The Brother Princes premieres Saturday, December 11, 3:00 p.m. ET/PT and 7:00p.m. ET/PT.

The day concludes with the BBC AMERICA premiere of The Queen. Dame Helen Mirren gives an Oscar-winning performance as H.M. The Queen Elizabeth II as she copes with her country’s reaction to Princess Diana’s death in 1997.  Michael Sheen also shines as Tony Blair in this Stephen Frears-directed film from 2006. The Queen premieres Saturday, December 11, 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and 11:00p.m. ET/PT.
