The Vampire Diaries NYCC Panel: “Haven’t Seen the Worst of Katherine”

By  |

Words that sent a chill through me, heard at last weekend’s New York Comic Con Vampire Diaries panel. The panel was attended by showrunners Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, Katerina Graham, Sara Canning, Zach Roerig and Steven R. McQueen, moderated by Zap2it‘s Carina MacKenzie.  “Katherine goes even darker and changes the game a lot.” This was one of the few tid-bits revealed by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. They didn’t give us much in the way of spoilers, which made this Nice Girl very happy.

The panel started out by showing us a clip of what’s to come the rest of this season. If you think things have been crazy so far this season, hold on to your seats, fans. It’s about to get a lot crazier! If you are not watching The Vampire Diaries yet, um, why? The writing is superb, the cast is perfect and the stories are so twisted with edge-of-your-seat excitement that its a show that is very hard to resist. So don’t!

Some of the highlights from the panel:

  • other mythological beings will be introduced, though not for quite a while yet;
  • Alaric’s secrets will cause some problems in his relationship with Jenna;
  • Jenna has secrets too;
  • possible love interest for Bonnie-could be someone we already know;
  • flashbacks with Katherine will go way, way back;
  • Jeremy signs on as a Hunter and his friendship with Tyler continues to develop. Jeremy realizes that he can use Tyler to a degree;
  • Bonnie’s powers are much stronger when a loved one is threatened;
  • the friendship between Elena, Bonnie and Caroline will mend and the girls will come to terms with each other and become very strong together;
  • Jeremy, hardened by his own losses, will go to any lengths to protect his sister, but he feels he has nothing more to lose;
  • Matt is as morally strong as any supe on the show with their supernatural powers;
  • there will be challenges to Stefan and Elena’s relationship prompted by Katherine’s actions and Stefan going off of his animal diet;
  • Katherine is not going away any time soon;
  • Bonnie will always try adapting when it comes to her friends, Elena and Caroline. She will remain a pure and strong soul;
  • witches and vampires are natural enemies. Witches have always been used and abused by vamps for their own gain, and vampires are just plain bad.

That’s about the jist of it. I’m very excited to see how the three girls (Elena, Caroline and Bonnie) unite and become so strong. And against whom – Katherine alone? It’s food for thought!
