Wynonna Earp Recap: “Shed Your Skin”

By  |

Here is the official synopsis of last night’s episode of Wynonna Earp:

While Waverly’s change accelerates and Doc makes a dangerous deal, Wynonna must fight spider creatures.

Cleanliness Is Next to Godliness

Working for Black Badge has its perks – well – maybe only one with Wynonna and Doc sharing a shower together in an effort to detox after getting “goo’ed” by whatever creature they were tracking for that nefarious new boss of theirs: Lucado

Greeting An Old Friend/Frenemy

Mercedes Gardner is back in town after 12 years, and it would seem she and Wynonna have something else in common besides being former classmates…or were they friends…or frenemies? They are the number 1 and number 2 most hated women in Purgatory.

At first I thought she might have something to do with the supernatural force that has come to ‘visit’ the fated town, but after she got spooked by the Women in Black that is haunting that old school building, and nearly being taken out by those giant spider babies, I could be wrong.

Spiders, Spiders and More Spiders

I am no fan of spiders and any time a sci-fi show I watch introduces creepy crawlers, I tend to get the willies. This time was no different, and I have to wonder if whatever that creature was in last week’s season premiere isn’t behind the nest of spiders that Wynonna and Waverly took out are somehow related.

Speaking of Waverly, I was somewhat hoping we wouldn’t have a return of the black eyed demon that has taken possession [albeit not completely…not yet anyway] of her body, but no such luck! She turned at the end of the episode, and then did the unthinkable – at least to me – she ate that damn spider baby that Wynonna took out in the beginning of the episode and for which Jeremy, the new lab tech guy from Black Badge, dissected.

All together now: EEEWWWW!!!!

What’s Up Doc?

Another important part of last night’s episode was Doc not only getting the upper-hand with that dreaded Lucado – thanks to files he pilfered that proves she has been sending out mercenaries to terminate Dolls – but also he’s taking over Shorty’s Saloon [thanks to money he blackmailed Lucado out of because of those files]; but it’s that little chemistry set he and his “lady friend” Rosie are cooking up in the basement that has me on edge. What exactly is Doc up to? I can’t really seeing him concocting a drug lab so maybe he’s attempting to set up the makings of the “potion” that Dolls has to take in order to keep his animal-side under control?

Love In the Afternoon

Waverly and Nicole (Officer Haught) finally made a love connection despite their squabbles over Waverly not including her in the team working (or to be more specific being forced to work) for Black Badge as a way to protect her; but who is going to protect Nicole from whatever Waverly is becoming? For that matter, does Waverly even realize that she’s becoming the very thing that her sister and the team hunts? What will poor Nicole be forced to do once the truth of Waverly’s possession becomes public?

Being Haunted

Is Wynonna really being haunted by her recently deceased sister Willa? It would seem that Wynonna believes that she is and that could be the case given that she had to shot her own sister in the head to save Purgatory. But the Woman in Black that is skulking around that old school isn’t alone – it turned out there are two. Could there be more? Could those spirits be Willa and the girls’ mother – given that Wynonna smelled the perfume their mom and Willa loved to wear? Or could those spirits be tied to the creature in the box from last week, the spiders in the deserted school or something far scarier?
