Karen's Pull List
Karen’s Pull List: Series 01, Issue 11 – For the WE 01/21/17
Only a couple of shows returned this week, but it’s enough for a new Pull List, so here we go!
Gotham 3×12 – Ghosts
Rating: 8 seekrit maps
- Hitman with Pizsasz
Our old pal Victor Zsasz meets with Jim Gordon in a surprise home visit, helping himself to some cow juice while he’s there. He lets James know that while he has admiration for what he’s done for Gotham, he has a job to do – and that job is to take him out. Oh yeah, and good job on taking out Mario… Vic didn’t like that kid. - Oswald’s Big Adventure
Ed is seeing his father everywhere. Specifically, his father’s ghost. Except that it’s not his father – or his father’s ghost – it’s clayface. Ed has started on his gaslighting plan to make Oswald insane, and it seems to be working. Ed’s already successful in causing Oswald to kill his new right-hand man, only to cover it up – making the Penguin’s head spin even further.
This week’s director, Eagle Egilsson (best director name ever) is a master at exposition without exposition. allowing us to see Ed’s plan by having him explain it to Barbara – and then seeing it acted out from the other side. Amazing atmospheric shots. I think it was the best part of the show. - She learned it by (not) watching you!
Maria’s still in town, and she wants to get to know her daughter. Unfortunately, Selena isn’t as receptive as mom would like her to be. Bruce convinces Selena to give her a chance, so after a little dinner and pickpocketing, Maria has charmed Bruce and Alfred so much that she’s invited to hang out at the mansion until morning.
Once Cougar and Kitten arrive at their hotel, they’re greeted by a man from Maria’s past who wants some money he’s owed. Selena, now hopeful that her mother wants back into her life, offers up Bruce’s money to get them out of trouble. The only question is whether Maria is in on the con or if she’s part of it. - Put on a Happy Face
The cult of Joker is alive and well, and it’s being tended to by the morgue’s creepiest employee Dwight. He wants to bring Jerome back to life, and he’s testing things out on some of Gotham’s recently deceased. James and Harvey suss things out and stumble upon one of his rallies, which are super weirdtastic. It’s like Mystery Science Theatre Joker-thousand – and I have a feeling it’s about to get Joker-hundred-thousand times worse.
Trivia: David Dastmalchian (Dwight) played one of Joker’s thugs in 2008’s “The Dark Knight”
Lucifer 2×11 – Stewardess Interruptus
Rating: 8 Bowls of Chocolate Sugar Frosties
- Fly in the Face of Danger
We start the episode right where we left off, where Chloe and Lucifer were just about to kiss. Unfortunately, they’re interrupted by one of Luci’s previous conquests, who just happens to be a Stewardess on an unscheduled “layover.”
In a not very unexpected turn of events, she ends up being the episode’s murder victim, and Chloe is reminded of her near-miss with Lucifer, even though she had decided to keep things platonic for now. Operative word… “HAD.” - Woman’s March
To add insult to injury, once they’ve linked several murder victims to Lucifer, they have to get more of his liasons in for questioning. Since Chloe is lead on the case, she “gets” to handle the interrogations. I got the feeling that it was a figurative piling on of humiliation after humiliation when each and every person (males and females alike) raved about his prowess – and there were a LOT of them. How could she possibly live up?
When she asked questions about whether Lucifer had brought them burgers or had conversations with them, perhaps she got a little confidence back, but she was most likely demoralized and torn down by all the “relationships” he’d had. - Fangirling
My least favorite part of the episode – Lucifer has a stalker, and she gives fans a bad name. Namely, “Stalker.”
She’s the worst. If she was a Barbie doll, she’d come complete with a Lucifer voodoo doll, Serial Killer wall, and crazytown eyes.
Weirdo. - Vial Conduct
The object around which the murders were wound was a bundle of vials. They were supposedly drugs, but they ended up being vials full of a mysterious substance that caused a man who was touched by it to be put in agony. He was killed by a shadowy figure in a trenchcoat at the end of the episode – we’ll find out who soon enough. Probably in the next two episodes. - Kiss and Make Up
In a scene that I’ve seen about one-hundred times now, Chloe and Lucifer have a talk on the beach about their relationship. It’s the beach where all of Luci’s significant life events take place – he “landed” in L.A., his wings were burned, and now he shared his most intimate moment with Chloe there. He admits that he’s not nearly good enough for her, at least not yet, but that he wants to be. She agrees, but without hesitating a beat – steps up and plants one on him. *SWOON*
Some news from EW:
Timothy Omundson has landed a guest-starring role on Lucifer.
The Psych and Galavant alum will play God Johnson, a patient in a psychiatric hospital, who is charming, enigmatic, and oh yeah, he thinks he’s the one and only God Almighty.
But, as Lucifer (Tom Ellis) tries to prove him a phony, he comes to find that “God Johnson” seems to know things that only Lucifer’s true Father would know. Could he really be the Big Guy Upstairs?
Agents of SHIELD 4×10 – The Patriot
Rating: 9 Figureheads
- Talbot’s Pet… Project
A lot is revealed in this episode, the main thing being that Jeffrey Mace aka “The Patriot” is not an Inhuman after all. The team is split up into two parts with Coulson and Mack joining Mace “in the field,” and Fitz, Simmons, Daisy, and May back at base with Talbot. Talbot, Daisy, and May are ready to question their Watchdog prisoner – but when things start coming to light, Simmons confronts Talbot who has to come clean about Mace.
They “engineered” a version of the Jekyll Super-serum – taking out the “bad stuff” in order to give him his super powers so they could have someone with powers in charge of SHIELD. This fits with the Comic Book mythos, so it’s not unexpected for me, but it’s not like they’ve never gone off-book.
Out in the woods, Coulson and Mack get the story straight from the Patriot’s mouth when his meds get destroyed by more Watchdog thugs. Burroughs bites it too, so it’s not a total loss. (oops, did I just type that out loud?) - I Wish I May…
May-bot is still subbing for the real May, but she doesn’t know that she’s an LMD. That is, until she gets a deep wound in her shoulder and feels her own circuitry. We’ll have to see what happens when she becomes self-aware. She’s not one of the LMD’s that’s supposed to know what she is, so there’s gonna be some weirdness going on. - Banned of Brothers
Speaking of the LMD project, Radcliffe has been banned from the SHIELD base for now, and both he and Fitz are gutted. Of course, it’s for different reasons, but poor Fitz doesn’t know that. Radcliffe needs access to home base in order to get the Darkhold book again, and the only way now is to keep his hold on the May-bot. Complications continue on that front.
Not to mention the real may seems to be breaking out of the spell she’s been put under. She’s stronger than the illusion they’ve been showing her, and it’s only a matter of time before things go pear-shaped.
