CONSTANTINE: Comic Con Press Room Highlights
Everyone is in the comic reimaging game right now and NBC is no different. They have adapted the DC Comic Constantine for their fall line up. Some of you may remember Keanu Reeves playing the title role in the 2005 movie of the same name. In case you don’t remember – “Seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan) is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. He fights the good fight – or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to abandon his campaign against evil until a series of events thrusts him back into the fray, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line, Constantine will use his skills to travel the country, find the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.”
The cast also includes Harold Perrineau as Manny, Charles Halford as Chas and Angélica Celaya as Zed.
I had the extremely enjoyable job of covering the press room at Comic Con where I spoke with the cast.
Below are the highlights:
Matt Ryan: Likes the tormented/cynical nature of the character and the challenge that comes from playing that part. Unrelated he also does a hilarious Rocky impression.
Harold Perrineau: Thinks his characters motivations are good. He is a loyal angel to his boss but things haven’t been going the way he wants. The journey won’t be easy.
Charles Halford: Loves that the show needed a guy of his stature – he’s 6’ 5” and he knew the source material so that’s all it took for him to want to be on board. The most important thing for him is to convey that family-like bond he and Constantine share.
Angélica Celaya: Loves the push/pull between her character and Constantine. They both need each other but can’t admit it. Can’t wait to present her version of Zed.
Constantine airs Friday October 24th at 10/9c on NBC
