ALPHAS Recap: The Quick and the Dead
Alphas opens on a guy walking through a city where everything but the rain seems to have stopped moving. Or as it turns out he is just moving really fast. Oh and it’s C. Thomas Howell, so that’s cool.
Fast moving guy enters a restaurant, grabs a man’s arm and pulls him at super speed out of the restaurant.
Meanwhile Hicks is in bed with Dr. Rosen’s daughter, well that’s not good. I mean it looks fantastic, he ridiculously pretty and they seem to be having a lot of fun, but this can’t end well her working for Stanton Parish and all.
In the office Dr. Rosen shows up while Gary is throwing a fit. He is yelling and pushing people. Someone ate his pudding. He isn’t adjusting well to all the new people in the office, and there are a lot of people in that office.
Dr. Rosen is looking at the video of the train crash from the end of last episode. He thinks it was Stanton Parish was behind the crash.
Bill comes in with a possible case, the abduction of a man from a restaurant. The team is checking out the restaurant. Gary sees a blurry guy on a video, a blurry guy not using the walk signals properly, according to Gary.
Rachel follows the guys scent from the restaurant to a fish warehouse. They find the kidnapped doctor dead in a freezer.
Bill was able to trace the prints on the screwdriver that took the kidnapped guys eye out to a man named Eli. He was previously incarcerated in Building 7 of the Alpha prison.
Eli has an enlarged brain section which causes him to be able to move so fast but it is also aging him just as fast.
Bill is already bringing in the wife of the guy that was kidnapped and he tells Hicks and Rachel to look at incident reports, and they listen. Leaving Dr. Rosen standing there…Bill is still very much in charge apparently.
Hicks sees Nina in the kitchen and it is awkward. Gary interrupts and tells Hicks to check his texts, he starts to read them out loud, they are from Dr. Rosen’s daughter, and thankfully Nina had already left.
Dr. Rosen finds Nina hanging an actual Van Gough painting in her office. Dr. Rosen says her life is out of control, its’ not just the painting. She needs to stop pushing people unless necessary and show up on time. She needs to get it under control.
Despite not liking the new people in the office, and voicing it often, Gary found one similar crime where there was a blur. It only just happened so they are hoping to find the kidnapped victim alive.
They get to Eli in time to see him threatening a man with a knife. Hicks does his super focused thing and shoots the knife out of Eli’s hand. Eli runs away. He’s fast, but Bill let’s his adrenaline kick in and it looks like he can catch him, but at the last moment Eli gets away.
At the hospital the guy who was kidnapped is being questioned by Dr. Rosen and Bill. Turns out he was part of a team of doctors that were trying out experimental therapies such as brain wave altering on children, Eli being one of those children.
We see a very old woman having trouble breathing and Dr. Rosen’s daughter putting her hands on her face and taking away the pain. She is doing this while Stanton Parish is sitting on the side of the old women’s bed. Turns out the old women is his grandchild, the last living grandchild he has. He has already buried 31 of them over the years.
Stanton asks her how her Dad and Hicks are doing. He hopes she and Hicks can remain friends. She looks confused but Stanton reminds her that now that her Dad is back she needs to stay focused. She can’t get emotional and she knows how she gets when she is involved with someone.
She must have called Hicks because next thing we see she is on the street and Hicks is coming up to meet her. He is really happy to see her but she starts the breakup lines, “this has been great, my Dad is back now”, etc…she says they need to end it. He tries to talk her out of this. She says this isn’t going to work, it’s her ability making him feel good and they have to end it.
In the office Bill wants the kidnapped doctor thrown in jail, he can’t believe he was experimenting on children. Rosen agrees but they have to let him go, they need to use him as bait. Rosen is betting on the team. Bill doesn’t think the team is ready.
After the break Nina walks into Hicks’s office. She knows he is angry, he says he is over it. She never should have used her ability on him, she is sorry she ruined what they had. She wants to make things right and try again. He says he is seeing someone, she wants to know who, he says no but because Nina is a little bit crazy she pushes Hicks and he tells her and she is mad.
Gary, Hicks and Bill are staking out the kidnapped doctors apartment. Gary spills that Hicks had breakfast with Danni Rosen. Hicks doesn’t want to talk about it.
In the office Rachel is telling Dr. Rosen that Nina isn’t returning her calls. She is worried. Dr. Rosen says Nina is just upset. She goes to leave and something flies past her she shakes her head and keeps going. Eli shows up in Dr. Rosen’s office. He wants Dr. Rosen to make this stop.
Can I take a moment to say how awesome C. Thomas Howell is as Eli? Okay…he’s awesome.
He doesn’t want to look so old, he is 22 years old and he wants it to stop. Dr. Rosen says he will do everything he can to help Eli.
At the stake out Rachel is berating Hicks for having sex with Dr. Rosen’s daughter. Hicks doesn’t want to have this conversation with anyone.
Rachel says this is wrong, so they head back to the office.
Eli sees a picture of Stanton Parish on Rosen’s desk…he says he knows him, he ran the clinic where they did the testing on him as a child.
Danni gets to the office to see Eli and her Dad; she calls Hicks before Eli gets to her phone.
Eli is clearly unstable and when the team gets to the office they find Danni tied up on the floor. Gary works on finding Rosen. Eli had Rosen drive to where the clinic used to be that Parish ran. Rosen tells him they can’t reverse the process but they might be able to slow it down. The team gets there and Eli freaks out, he holds Rosen at knife point. Danni gets close to Eli and puts her hands on his face. She uses her ability to slow him down for a moment. A gunshot rings out and Eli is shot dead in the back.
The next morning Clay says he is running an investigation to find out who took the shot.
When he leaves Rosen’s office Rosen starts to vent to Bill. He doesn’t believe it was an accident. Eli was gunned down.
Danni is talking to Stanton. She says she wants to be with Hicks. He says she deserves to be happy; she just needs to be careful.
At the office the team is sitting together, except Nina. No one has heard from Nina. Gary is giving Hicks a bad time about Rosen’s daughter. Rosen gets into the office and closes the door. He says that while they are still going to work with Clay and his agents they are not going to let them in on anything they talk about in that office. He puts up a picture of Stanton Parish. Eli was their first solid lead to Stanton and he is dead. He doesn’t know if that is connected but the people in this room, and that includes the absent Nina, are the only ones they can truly count on.
We see Stanton at the bedside of his last grandchild. He kisses her on the forehead and then puts his hand over her mouth suffocating her to death.
We end with Rosen entering a bar to find Nina. She hears he killed another Alpha. Nina says she is done, she resigns. “Oh and FYI Hicks is nailing your daughter.” She pushes Dr. Rosen, tells him to stop talking and she is done.
This season of Alphas is just getting started. I can’t wait to see where they go.
Alphas airs Monday 10/9c on Syfy
