Louise's Lounge
The Standby
The other day, after a very draining day at work, I took a nap. Knowing full well that I needed something on in the background so I’d wake up again, I looked around my room for something to put on in the background. There’s enough television shows sitting around to easily provide white noise, but somehow I decided to put in one of my old standbys, The West Wing.
Some of the choice for a show comes from a necessity not to have to wake up every forty-two minutes. That takes Buffy the Vampire Slayer out of my rotation–all because my DVDs don’t feature a “play all” feature at the start of a disc.
Another one of my favorites, Veronica Mars is good for mindless days, but I want to pay attention to the mysteries (even though I know the results.)
Like many of my favorite shows, I have a tendency to need to watch the show all the way. Which explains why, at this moment, I’m in the middle of season four, with no hope of stopping until the finale rolls across my screen.
I’m sure all of you are asking, “Why don’t you stop, Louise? You have plenty of other shows I can catch up on!” But, unlike every other show that I’m waiting to watch, I still care (years later) about all of these characters and what situations they find themselves in. So, here I sit, after another long day of work, watching about the lives of some White House staffers and their Commander in Chief.
