If Nice Girls Were a TV Show…

My favorite new show last summer, Rizzoli & Isles, is adapted from a bestselling book series by Tess Gerritsen. Tess has been quoted as saying that the adaptation was a dream come true, which got me to thinking: what if NiceGirlsTV were adapted into a TV show? I’ll let you in on a little secret: it kind of was.

See, back in 2007, when Bethanne and I were looking at pilots we thought we’d like to create fansites for, one of our favorite concepts was Nice Girls Don’t Get The Corner Office. That’s a really long domain name, so we shortened it to NiceGirlsTV and crossed our fingers. The pilot, starring Jayma Mays and Matthew Morrison (now co-starring on Glee; it really is a small world) didn’t make the cut, but we had the domain name and decided to create a site focusing on TV shows featuring strong female characters instead. That seems to have worked out pretty well. But what if we came full circle and NiceGirlsTV were adapted for the small screen?

Obviously it would be more glamorous than a bunch of women pounding away at our computers and Tweeting at each other about what we watched last night. No, our Nice Girls series would be a comedy about women working in the high-octane world of entertainment journalism, covering junkets and press events and drinking cocktails with celebrities. And then pounding away at their computers. Hey, it has to be somewhat realistic. We’d have glamour, romance, deadlines, triumphs, awkwardness, and a very special Comic Con episode every season. This could be pretty good. Someone book us an agent!
