Fall TV 2026 gets started tonight with the second season premiere of R.J. Decker on ABC. R.J. Decker stars Felicity and Grey’s Anatomy alum Scott Speedman as the title lead, who is an ex-con photographer who becomes a private investigator in South Florida. He solves strange cases with the help of his journalist ex-wife Catherine (Adelaide Clemens), Catherine’s cop wife Mel (Bevin Bru) and Emilia (Jaina Lee Ortiz), an enigmatic woman from his past who may help or destroy him.
One of the few new linear TV dramas that is set to premiere is Line of Fire, which will debut on NBC on September 21. This new series finds 9-1-1 star Peter Krause playing Mike Hollingsworth, a Secret Service agent, who – along with his estranged wife Jane (played by Hope Davis), a U.S. Marshal herself – raised a houseful of children who became law enforcement officials themselves. Their grown children include: Clare (Kat Cunning), an FBI agent; Micah (Tommy O’Brien), a Secret Service agent just like his dad and Russ (Taylor Bloom), a newly minted Department of Justice hire.
Thanks to the folks at TV Guide, the opener finds Mike asking a favor of his brother Russ that could severely compromise his career before he’s barely begun it, and Clare ruffles her mom’s feathers by digging too deeply into the case of a murdered marshal.
The following night the FOX dramas Best Medicine and Doc will be back for their second and third seasons respectively.
As the fall TV seasons rolls out in October, the following new dramas will debut:
NCIS: New York on CBS starting on October 6. LL Cool J is back as Sam Hanna – from his long-standing role on NCIS: Los Angeles – this time teaming with Hawai’i Five-0 cast member Scott Caan who will play Sam’s new NY partner Nick Schaeffer.
Again, thanks to TV Guide, this new team will deal with the usual cases for feds, but Sam is “searching for something else, digging in a little deeper into who he is…as he has ties here (in New York).
It should be noted that this is the 7th spin-off series in the NCIS franchise, joining the ranks of the mothership NCIS, the Gibbs-influenced prequel NCIS: Origins and the international series NCIS: Sydney.
The other new CBS drama Cupertino will debut on October 8, starring Evil and Luke Cage lead Mike Colter in a role written for him by series co-creators Robert and Michelle King. Colter will play Michael Price, who is ousted by his firm partner, leading him to plot revenge. He teams with Olivia Siffre (Rachel Keller), who was also thrown out after rejecting her boss’ advances. This team will target “the untouchables,” working to “screw over” their nemeses with tricky loophole wins.
Unlike years past when all of the major networks would fill up their fall schedules with returning favorites and a fair amount of new dramas and comedies, this year – like many other recent TV seasons – there are far fewer new shows. Case in point, the three – count them THREE – new dramas set to debut over the course of the next few weeks. It’s kind of a sad state of affairs for linear TV and the major networks.
Now, if we jump over to the cable side of television, there are several new shows for viewers to get excited about, including:
Yaga, based on the Slavic legend of the child-eating Baba Yaga, will debut on AMC in October, starring Matrix alum Carrie-Anne Moss as a college professor whose expertise in the study of bones is only matched by her taste for younger men. Set in a remote coastal town, a private investigator (Schitt’s Creek alum Noah Reid) and a local cop (Clark Backo from Letterkenny and the box office movie Venom: The Last Dance) work together to find the missing heir to a fishing dynasty (to be played by Heated Rivalry’s lead Hudson Williams).
S.W.A.T. Exiles, the spin-off series, will debut on Starz on September 25 with lead Shemar Moore back as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. This time around it’s been two years since Hondo led an elite tactical unit and he’s been off the job since a mission went sideways and he was framed for killing a kid. Hondo will be joined a mostly new team, including Ronen Rubinstein from 9-1-1: Lone Star, Zyra Gorecki from La Brea, Lucy Barrett from the reboot of Charmed, Freddy Miyares from Grey’s Anatomy and The L Word: Generation Q and Adain Bradley from The Bold and the Beautiful.
American Hostage is the 1970’s set drama that will debut on MGM+ on September 20. Mad Men alum Jon Hamm will play Indianapolis radio newsman Fred Heckman, who became part of the real life story in 1977 when an incensed man (Giovanni Ribisi), facing foreclosure, kidnapped his mortgage broker (Kristoffeer Polaha). The series will chronicle the 63-hour ordeal that was often shown live on the air at the time. The cast also includes The Killing alum Mireille Enos as Heckman’s wife.
Then, over on streaming viewers can see the following new dramas:
A new version of Pride & Prejudice will roll out on Netflix sometime this fall, featuring Oscar winner Olivia Colman as Mama Bennett and Emma Corrin (The Crown and the box office movie Deadpool & Wolverine as the one and only Elizabeth Bennett. Fitzwilliam Darcy will be played, this time, by Slow Horses alum Jack Lowden.
Box office star Florence Pugh will star in the lead role of Cathy Ames in the new Netflix adaptation of the 1952 novel East of Eden, which is set to debut on October 1. In this depiction, viewers will meet Cathy as a young girl in the late 1880s where she quickly learns the power and danger of her intoxicating beauty.
Also on Netflix, starting on November 19, will be the limited series The Altruists that will focus on Sam Bankman-Fried (who was sentenced to 25 years in prison) [played by Anthony Boyle from House of Guinness and Masters of the Air] and Caroline Ellison (Julia Garner, Emmy winner from Ozark). These two “math brains” started out as an idealistic couple in their 20’s who wanted to save the world by reshaping the financial systems, but instead they lost billions in investors; and customers’ fortunes.
Amazon Prime will revisit the world of Blade Runner in the small screen sequel Blade Runner 2099, starring Michelle Yeoh and Euphoria alum Hunter Schafer, set to debut on November 25. In this version, replicants run the world. Yeoh will play Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner facing her scheduled last days of life and Schafer will play Cora, a human posing as a replicant. They team up to hunt down some replicants who have gone missing and could be the key to the fragile regrowth of the city.
The world of Stephen King’s Carrie will also be revisited on Amazon Prime starting on October 7 with Summer H. Howell (who has appeared in the thriller-horror franchise based on Chucky and several other horror flicks) starring in the lead role. This time around, though, Matthew Lillard (Scooby Doo franchise and Good Girls) will play the school principal and Amber Midthunder (Legion and the box office movie Prey) will play the kindly gym teacher.
The Apple TV series 12 12 12 will star Marvel star Anthony Mackie and Shades of Grey alum Jamie Dornan and is set to debut on November 13. The tagline for the show is: A high-asset robbery, professionally conceived, is 12 months in planning, 12 hours in execution. A bank robber who’s not caught within 12 days…is not caught at all. Disgraced FBI agent Jack Bridgewater (Mackie) and master thief Paul Galvin (Dornan) prepare an elaborate Christmas Eve heist of a Zurich bank vault, for a year and the ensuing game of cat-and-mouse is the focus of the series.
Perhaps most anticipated of all is VisionQuest, the long in development spin-off to WandaVision, that will debut on Disney+ starting on October 14 with Paul Bettany stepping back into the guise of Vision. Originally created to destroy the out-of-control Wanda Maximoff, this version of Vision was built with restored memories except he is missing the Mind Stone, which causes him to lack the emotional intelligence that would make him more human. The story takes place in Vision’s mind space with him testing out living a human life alongside real life versions of Marvel AI’s including J.A.R.V.I.S. (played by returning James D’Arcy), E.D.I.T.H. (played by Emily Hampshire), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (played by Orla Brady), Dum-E (played by Henry Lewis) and U (played by Jonathan Sayer. Villainous Ultron will also be on hand seen in real time as human in the form of James Spader, who provided the voice to the evil “robot” from the 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron.
