Who Represents the Future of Our Country

By  |

I had every intention to have a very different subject matter for my column this week, but with the surprising announcement on Sunday from President Joe Biden that he has decided to drop out of the election, it became very clear to me that I needed to focus this week’s column on that.

Now, I want to preface that the following is not representative of any other member of the NiceGirlsTV staff (unless, of course, they agree with me). That being said, I am not “speaking” on behalf of any of them. I am merely going to state how I feel about this subject matter in the hopes that it will perhaps help those who are undecided and to just be able to get my point of view out there.

As anyone with a TV or social media account is aware by now, President Biden has given his endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris. Support began to build very quickly over the course of Sunday (and I’m sure will continue to grow over the course of this week) for Vice President Harris to become the nominee at the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Unlike what many of us have seen from the Republican Party, this is only an endorsement from a sitting President, this is not a sure thing. The delegates at the DNC will make the final decision, because unlike what the Republican Party has become over the course of the last 8 or so years – since a certain “person” (and I use that term loosely) made his way into politics – that particular party has become more like a cult than the political party for which I was raised to be part of.

Now again, I’m going to say this: The following are my opinions only, not those of the NiceGirlsTV staff.

With the election about 100 days from now, we all need to think about who represents the future of our country. This line was repeated quite often on the news reports throughout the day on Sunday, and it really reverberated with me.

Who is the best person to lead us into the future?

A geriatric man who can barely form two coherent sentences, let alone read a teleprompter and who has used a botched assassination attempt to garner even more favor with the very people who would, more than likely, watch him shoot someone outside of a federal building and still vote for him; something he has actually said in interviews, so don’t be surprised by this statement.

OR

A vibrant woman who is nearly 20 years his junior who has been setting records her entire career from her days as Attorney General of California, to junior U.S. Senator for California to becoming the first female Vice President of the United States, who has traveled the world on behalf of the Biden Administration, working to fix what the former President – well, basically – screwed up during his tumultuous time in office.

Now, I can just hear a certain segment of the American people saying, “Well, we can’t have a black woman President because it just isn’t done.” Or saying, “She can’t do the job of a man.” Or saying, “I’ll never vote for a woman, let alone a black one, because I’m a racist.” Okay, that last one is more what I imagine most rednecks would say, and as a redneck (I was born and raised in an extremely small town about 40 miles Northeast of Pittsburgh so I can insult my own “kind” if I want to and believe me I want to). But despite those excuses, we still need to focus on who can lead us into the future.

In my opinion, that CANNOT be Donald J. Trump even with his 39-year-old sycophant Vice President/running mate J.D. Vance on the ticket with him. Vance is literally the embodiment of a racist hillbilly (again, he grew up in Ohio, wrote a book called “Hillbilly Elegy” and is basically poor white trash, and I grew up not that far from Ohio so I can insult my own “kind.”)

If Trump were to get elected for a second term, and as a convicted felon – because his 34 counts of felony have not been overturned [nor should they be], he cannot enter the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Cuba, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Macau, New Zealand, South Africa, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. What’s more the United States wouldn’t allow him to enter our country if he were coming from another country, so there’s that too. On top of that, the following countries will deny him entry if it’s discovered he is a felon (and who hasn’t heard about his felony convictions): Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.

Oh my God, I’m tired just typing all of those countries, and Trump cannot enter any of them. How is he supposed to be an effective (if that word can even be applied to him) President if he cannot go to those countries when or if the need arises?

And don’t get me started on some of the “talking points” that Trump continues to ramble on about at his rallies. He wants mass deportation of immigrants. Which immigrants? Only the recent ones? Or only the immigrants who came across the border in the last, say, 5 years? 10 years? How far-reaching is he going to be? His VP running mate seems to think – according to a recent commercial that he recorded for his home state of Ohio – that immigrants coming across the border are taking jobs from hard-working Ohioans and the drugs that these immigrants are bringing across the border nearly cost him his mother. Really? According to his book, she stole prescription medications from patients in her job as a nurse. How are prescription medications the same thing as drugs coming across the border by immigrants? And she stole those medications. The immigrants he is blaming didn’t force feed them down her throat.

These are just two examples of what is wrong with Trump and Vance. There is also Agenda 47 that is being touted by Trump to be the blueprint of what he will follow should he get back into power. Agenda 47 is no different than Project 2025 that has been talked about ad nauseam (and rightfully so) for quite some time now. Those documents want to end Social Security and Medicare; they want to discontinue benefits to Veterans; they want to dismantle the Department of Education; do away with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – you know the people who forecast the weather, monitor the oceans and atmospheric conditions – because the Republican party doesn’t believe in climate change; they’ve already gutted women’s rights to choose or even prevent pregnancies; they believe that the only valid marriage is between a man and a woman; they want to arrest teachers and librarians who promote banned books – because, after all, only Republicans can tell you what you can and cannot read; and so many other horrible things.

Now, I can imagine that plenty of right-wing voters, who think that only whites should inherit the Earth and that if you are a person of color or, God forbid Jewish, then you’re beneath the white man, will have plenty of negative things to say about President Biden and the – hopefully – soon-to-be Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. I’m sure they will also be pretty pissed at me for everything I have said, but – you know what, I don’t care!

They don’t have to like what I’m saying. They can think that Biden-Harris have done a horrible job compared to Trump – or any other President in the history of our country for that matter – and I’m sure they could outline a 50-or-more page diatribe about all the things that are wrong with Biden and Harris, but it still comes down to one simple thing:

Who represents the future of our country?

I’ll let you stew on that, but I will ask you this. Read up on Agenda 47 and Project 2025. Read “Hillbilly Elegy.” Watch videos of both sides, whether it be State of the Union addresses or rallies that have been held all over this country or any other videos you can find. Judge and compare both sides. Forget about the rhetoric or the pointing fingers or blaming the “other” side for their failures. Think about where our country could be headed, how that will affect you, your family, your kids, your neighbors, hell, even your pets or the hillbillies down the street or halfway across the country from where you live.

What do you want for them and yourself? And then read this one line again: Who represents the future of our country?
