My Top 15 Choices for December TV

By  |

It’s hard to believe that 2022 is nearly at an end. Where has this year gone?

Like every other month, I take at least one week to focus on the TV shows, specials and/or movies that will air in the upcoming month that are top on my “must watch list.” This month won’t be any different.

So, without further adieu, here are my top 15 choices for December TV:

COMING TO A CLOSE (FOR NOW)

The Rookie will air two new episodes on December 4 at 9 and 10 PM on ABC with the second airing being the show’s fall finale until it returns on its new night Tuesday, January 3; and,

The winter finale of Yellowstone will air on the Paramount Network on December 18 at 8 PM.

BACK FOR MORE ACTION

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will be back for a third season on Amazon on December 21; and,

That same day (December 21) Emily in Paris will return for its third season on Netflix.

JOINING THE RANKS

The small screen adaptation of National Treasure: Edge of History will debut its first two episodes on Disney+ on December 14. This version will focus on Jess (newcomer Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family. She embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Harvey Keitel are part of the cast.

The Netflix series The Recruit will debut on December 16. Noah Centineo will play a rookie lawyer at the CIA who stumbles headlong into the dangerous world of international espionage when a former asset threatens to expose agency secrets.

The much-anticipated Yellowstone prequel series 1923 will debut on Paramount+ on December 18. Starring the one and only Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Helen Dutton, the series will explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home.

Another anticipated dramas is the Netflix limited series prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin set to debut on December 25, starring venerable Michelle Yeoh. Set in an elven world 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia (the soon-to-be-departing Henry Cavill), the worlds of monsters, men and elves merge to become one — and the very first Witcher arises.

IT’S TIME FOR SOME SPECIALS

The illustrious a cappella group Pentatonix will have a holiday special on December 2 on Disney+ while ABC will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Beauty and the Beast with an animated and live-action special starring award winner H.E.R. and Josh Groban as the title characters on December 15 at 8 PM.

MOVIES, MOVIES AND MORE MOVIES

Out of the 66 – yes, 66! – movies that will air throughout December (of course the majority of them are holiday-themed), the following are my top 5 simply because of their cast:

A Fabled Holiday on the Hallmark Channel on December 3 at 8 PM, starring Brooke D’Orsay and Ryan Paevey

Holiday Stocking on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries also on December 3 at 10 PM, which includes among its cast B.J. Britt (for all you Agents of SHIELD fans) and Tamala Jones (for all you Castle fans).

Something From Tiffany’s on December 9 on Amazon, starring Zoey Deutch, Kendrick Sampson and Shay Mitchell.

Must Love Christmas on December 11 at 9 PM on CBS, starring The Equalizer cast member Liza Lapira as well as Nathan Witte and Neal Bledsoe.

And lastly, Five More Minutes: Moments Like These on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on December 17 at 10 PM, starring Ashley Williams and Lucas Bryant.

Please make sure to check out our full December TV calendar that went live on Sunday, which lists all of the dramas, specials, limited series and movies galore that will air throughout the month, and let us know what you are most looking forward to watching.

Happy Viewing!!
