A Million Little Things Roundtable: Not the Plan

By  |

A Million Little Things aired its second episode of season 4 on Wednesday night. Here is the official synopsis for the episode (season 4, episode 2) entitled “not the plan”:

Gary takes steps forward with Darcy and continues to distance himself from anything involving Peter. Rome makes an effort to distract Regina from her job search, which may be looking up after all. Maggie adjusts to a new work environment, while Katherine entertains a new friend; and Eddie makes progress in more ways than one.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Rueben:

First of all, it was so much fun to see Rome and Regina simply have a fun day off from any drama, just being a happy couple hanging out together and attempting to poke fun at the Crocodilz restaurant (where Regina interviewed to be a head Chef). It may not be where she wants to work, but as she said it might be nice for her to just have somewhere to clock in and clock out of for awhile; if she works at that chain restaurant, it definitely won’t be the fine dining served at Someday, but it will be good for her.

How funny was it to see Katherine acting like such a weirdo around Shanice (the actress who was going to play Regina in Rome’s movie)? I’m glad that they were able to bond over their own personal backstories – especially given the fact that Katherine had just been sharing with Rome that she worried over having to make new friends. We need to see more of that Katherine. I have to wonder if we’ll get more of Shanice and her daughter in future storylines.

I was glad to see from the flashbacks that Gary wasn’t the person who beat Peter nearly to death; but I’m still very disturbed about how it all went down. Gary was there, Peter saw both of them, and if he wakes up (and given how storylines turn out in this show, you know Peter will wake up), it’s not going to go well for Gary or Chris (Layla’s dad). I had a feeling when Gary got in the car someone was going to be in the back seat. Sometimes the storylines are a bit too predictable. The writers need to get better with that.

Speaking of which, how typical that Eddie would apply for a job (after the conversation with his new trainer Russ) at the same story where he tracked the woman who called him, the woman who claimed she was the one who hit him, the woman (played by Rachel Nichols) who was seen watching him and that lady talk outside the store. With Eddie going this route, how much to we want to bet that this will send him down the very path we were both hoping he wouldn’t go down?

I also don’t care about the new house for Gary, Darcy and Liam; just the same as I don’t care about the relationship between Gary and Darcy. I just don’t see them as heading toward a happy ever after even without the whole Peter being in a coma storyline.

Lastly, how great was it to see Maggie doing her interim radio show – In the Room with Dr. Bloom. I love the name of her show, I love how much she cares, how she handled the hazing from callers and how she even handled Nick, the traffic and weather guy. I really want to see more of this storyline, and how successful this radio show will (hopefully) become for Maggie.

Cay:

Yes, definitely enjoyed seeing Rome and Regina relax a bit! They are such a great couple when they aren’t all gloom and doom! I do have a hard time believing that Regina would be happy cooking at a place like Crocodilz! But maybe it’s meant to eventually push her in a direction where she may be happy? I really hope so!

Shanice and Katherine are a bit awkward, but okay. I wish the show hadn’t played it so over the top at the beginning because I hate feeling embarrassed for characters. I do hope that Shanice helps Rome get his movie out into the world.

I’m also relieved to find out that it wasn’t Gary who hurt Peter. OTOH, it was clearly his idea to go and threaten Peter and they weren’t wearing gloves and Peter saw their faces, so it seems like even if Peter doesn’t wake up, their finger prints have to be all over everything, unless they cleaned up later in a scene that we haven’t yet seen. Gary spent a lot of time on his alibi, but no time on the other stuff, like not leaving physical evidence all over the scene…the cop clearly has him in his sights and I can’t see him doing well under the pressure.

Yeah, I am so ambivalent about Darcy and Gary and Liam and the new house. It seems unlikely that the show would move Gary away from the others for too long, so I don’t see this working out (where they are supposedly moving is at least 2 hours west of Boston which makes it hard for him to just drop by everyone’s house, help Sophie out, etc.)

Maggie was on that station before and was popular, so I don’t quite get the whole plot about the joke callers. It just doesn’t seem all that likely, especially when she’s so genuine and sincere. It seems obvious that she’s going to end up giving her uptight coworker a bit of therapy as he’s definitely got some baggage.

This episode was about the happiest for Eddie that we’ve seen in a long while. I think Russ will be good for him, although I don’t love that he’s getting a job where the woman who hit him works. I was wondering if he might end up dating that fan that he met at the store. Hopefully not as that seems unlikely to help him stay on the wagon.

Cay's family thinks her obsession with pop culture is "not normal". Normal is boring!
