New Year’s Hopes For The Vampire Diaries, Being Erica, More
The New Year is a time for reflection on the year past and to hope for better things in the upcoming year. Here at NiceGirlsTV, we thought we would share a few hopes for some of our favorite shows for 2011.
First, we are hoping that this is the year that such great shows as Being Erica and Lost Girl (both stand-out Canadian series) make a splash with American audiences and can make appearances at San Diego Comic-Con. Both are critically lauded and very popular abroad. It only makes sense that they are discovered and appreciated by American audiences too.
A similar hope applies to the upcoming season of Torchwood which will make its American debut on Starz next summer. American audiences embraced Torchwood in 2009 with its controversial five-episode “Children of Earth.” Actors such as John Barrowman and Eve Myles should be heralded as even bigger stars now that they have bravely crossed the Pond to bring us their tantalizing series.
Then on The Vampire Diaries, it is time to unleash the beast and give Katherine her claws back. She made for a nasty, diabolical and unpredictable villain who deserves to be placed back up on her pedestal. Villains are, after all, a crucial element to any wickedly good story.
Turning to the other side of the blood-thirsty spectrum while last year was preoccupied with Alicia and Will’s relationship on The Good Wife, it would be great to see more of the newest hot pairing on the show, Kalinda and Blake. They may not be destined to fall into bed, but their blood-thirsty tango has us all riveted.
Another show in search of a dark villain is No Ordinary Family. The murky motives of Dr. King are too ambiguous. In order to really pull the Powell family out of their myopic view of super-powered life, we hope the show finds a dastardly villain to ratchet up the octane and suspense.
While many shows need their mean-side turned up, on The Mentalist, it would nice to see Patrick Jane embrace his softer-side again. Much of this season he has been as prickly as a porcupine, which is alienating viewers. We want to see him have a bit more fun as he pulls his notorious pranks and shenanigans.
On Modern Family, it is also high time for Baby Lily to have a voice. Perhaps she is still too young to be forming complete words and sentences, but voice-over assistance can be provided so that we can hear her perspective on the zany extended family that she finds herself thrown amongst would add a glimpse into her world.
For a series that is ending all too soon, let us hope that Life Unexpected ends on a high note and does not leave the fans hanging. It was cruel enough hearing the show was ending its run short. We want to know that Cate, Baze, Lux and Ryan all go on to live wonderful lives.
Then in White Collar, we are all praying for the healthy return of Mozzie, who was last seen shot on a park bench. The little con man with a heart of gold deserves to be brought back to wreck a special kind of vengeance on whoever tried to kill him.
Speaking of coming back from the brink of death, another TV character that deserves a second chance at life is Ben Mercer on Covert Affairs. Having a shadowy man in Annie’s life looking out for her was such a delicious treat.
Despite the safe return of Agent Olivia Dunham from the alternate world in Fringe, let us hope that the show does not eliminate with the forays to the other side. The alternate Fringe Division has provided a whole new dynamic to the show and introduced some super cool new characters that make us wonder if we are rooting for the right side. For who is right and who is wrong when both are fighting to save their reality?
A guy that deserves a good night out with the girl of his dreams is Jimmy Chance on Raising Hope. 2011 should be the year that he gets the girl – or at least a date.
Rooting for an unexpected pairing, is it too much to ask that Nikita give us more scenes with Alex and Michael? Their scenes sizzle with chemistry and it would give Michael even more reason to question his alliance with Division.
Also in need of a good boyfriend is Dr. Temperance Brennan on Bones. With Booth and Hannah’s relationship heating-up and taking on such a serious commitment tone, shouldn’t Brennan get a chance at happiness too?
With the quick cancellation of his other series, it would be nice if Bryce Johnson were able to make a return to the Pretty Little Liars world. He seemed to have a bulls-eye painted on the girls in trying to figure out who was hiding information about Allison’s murder. It would be fun if he returned to stir things up again.
Then on Haven, Syfy’s most addictive new series, perhaps bringing in a fresh face to replace Police Chief Wournos would be a fun addition to help keep the quirky series from getting too settled; and let us hope they continue with complicating the intriguing love triangle between Audrey, Nathan and Duke.
Also in need of a quick recovery is Grayson on Drop Dead Diva. It was horrific enough that he was hit by car at the end of the 2nd season finale, but he deserves a miraculous life-saving return.
In the Castle-world, we are all desperately hoping that Castle will be single again and looking for love. As happy as he may be with his ex-wife, that tumultuous relationship has gone on long enough.
Finally, returning to another fun across-the-pond series, on Merlin, it would be cool to have Arthur start to find out bits and pieces about Merlin’s abilities. Just think of all the fun and mischief they could get into!
These are but a few New Year’s dreams for 2011. Let us hope that these shows find the resolve to venture into new territories and make a little noise.
