Good Witch Recap: “The Comet”

By  |

The penultimate episode of Good Witch aired on the Hallmark Channel last night, focusing on the return of a special comet that can only be seen every 100 years in the skies of Middleton. Legend has it that everyone can make a wish on the comet, but not all of those wishes come true. Of course, the comet’s return was a big event for the residents of Middleton; one that everyone was looking forward to seeing at the town’s observatory.

As for Grace and Nick, they only have four more days until they are done with high school, and soon they will be heading off to college. Grace learned that she’s valedictorian while Nick claimed he was documenting the arrival of the comet when he was actually recording memories of Middleton as a way to remember his home.

In relationship news, Abigail was planning to leave for a trip to Europe in an effort to clear her head from her break up with Donovan; but Donovan was convinced that if he could break the curse, he and Abigail could be together. Meanwhile, his mother Dottie made it clear to Abigail that she felt gratitude toward Abigail for giving up Donovan. In the end, though, Donovan used a little magic – or more to the point 7,000 years of bad luck, by opening an umbrella indoors, walking under a ladder and breaking a mirror – to convince Abigail to give them another chance. I’d definitely say the kiss they shared was her believing in them and not the Merriwick-Davenport curse. Oh, and it would seem that Grace made a selfless wish for Abigail and Donovan to get back together, and that is the wish that came true.

While Grace was attempting to write her commencement speech, her grandpa – who viewers haven’t seen in awhile – sat down pieces of an old birdhouse they had built together when Grace was about 6 years old. Instead of working on her speech, they built a new one. Perhaps that time spent with her grandfather, revisiting a very fond memory from her childhood will give her inspiration for her speech.

Elsewhere, Adam and Stephanie received rave reviews for the grand opening of the Bistro Café’s food truck and the combined Monte Cristo they concocted for said grand opening. In doing so, they were inundated with customers on the day of the comet’s arrival. So much so that it was beginning to look like they would miss the big event until – as Cassie was there to pay them a quick visit – the grill in the food truck went out completely. Convenient mishap or a little touch of magic from Cassie?

We saw last week that Donovan’s mother Dottie and Mayor Martha Tinsdale have been frenemies since their days in high school; but their husbands both believed it was time for them to bury the hatchet. While it was clear that Martha wasn’t prepared to forgive and forget, Cassie’s advice to “focus on the person you want to be” really struck a nerve with Martha, and after looking at the over-the-top showcase of Dottie’s “accomplishments” during their lunch, Martha finally realized that she didn’t need all those trivial things in her life, that she was happy with the person she had become.

It was also during this episode that Sam had to conduct a complicated surgery while the latest guest at Grey House – a doctor by the name of Doug – watched. Because of the skills that Sam displayed during that surgery, Doug offered Sam a prestigious position at a hospital in Los Angeles. In true Cassie fashion, she wanted Sam to do what made him happy – even if that meant taking that job on the other side of the country. But, of course in the end, Sam told him he wasn’t taking the job, as he had what made him happy: Cassie
