Burden of Truth: The 6 Upsetting Events in “The Rabbit Hole”

By  |

The Kristin Kreuk drama Burden of Truth is back with its second season on The CW, following up the big case against Matheson Steel with a disturbing case of a hacktivist versus a powerful defense contractor.

The tagline for Sunday night’s episode was: “Joanna deals with the aftermath of an invasion of privacy; Billy entertains Shane’s idea to save the town.” That seems innocuous enough, but – truth be told – there were some very upsetting events taking place in this episode.

Here they are in no particular order:

1. Joanna was attacked. Sure it was not a physical assault resulting in any bodily injuries, but her nerves are clearly frayed enough so that she went to the police but she left before filing a complaint. Instead she contacted Billy about a private security firm, who sent a representative to assist Joanna. After her meeting with this rep, Joanna was even more on edge – if that is even possible given what has transpired so far.

2. Shane, Billy’s brother wants to open a microbrewery in Millwood to help re-establish the town since the small community is literally on life-support at this point. That’s all fine and well [despite my complete aversion to alcohol consumption] because Millwood needs some kind of “win” after losing Matheson Steel. But, Shane is clearly NOT stable. He seems to be hearing voices and have to wonder how his mental instability isn’t going to move from bad to worse.

3. Noah – Joanna’s new client (the hacktivist) – is really getting himself into hot water. Not only has he refused to take down his app but he also filmed himself during his contempt hearing. But Joanna came to the rescue [so to speak] in proving that the presiding judge held contempt of his own to Noah’s generation, being able to get Noah out on bail. Unfortunately, whoever has been following Joanna is now taking pictures of her, Noah and his girlfriend Mara.

4. Gerrilyn is ready to go after David Hanley, Joanna’s father, in court (she wants to go after his money) who had an affair with her when she was underage, resulting in Gerrilyn giving birth to his child Luna, Joanna’s half-sister. I give Gerrilyn credit for wanting to exact her own form of revenge, but this is going to be a very difficult uphill battle even with Billy acting as her lawyer.

5. Luna and Molly seem to be in the rocky stage of their relationship even if Luna is the only one realizing that they are in the rocky stage of their relationship. How much longer is Luna going to let her doubts linger without saying something to Molly?

6. Poor Taylor. She obviously finally broke down and read the letter from her estranged father, and whatever he said was clearly upsetting, but what exactly did he write to her?
