KILLING EVE 2.6: Thoughts on “Hope You Like Missionary!” [Roundtable]
Killing Eve was the star of the show at the BAFTAs last night. The show itself took home an award for best drama, while JodieComer was awarded best actress and Fiona Shaw best supporting actress. No surprises. We know how absolutely amazing this show is.
This week picks up right where we left off last week when Villanelle told Niko what Eve had done in Paris, and the aftermath of that isn’t pretty. Now Villanelle is working with Eve to get close to Aaron Peel, but is that really a good idea? Let’s see what Christie and I thought about “I Hope You Like Missionary!”
Beware: *SPOILERS* ahead.
THE GOOD
Christie: I want to be Carolyn when I grow up. Fiona Shaw must be living her best life right now. This woman gets all the guys, and they just deal with it (“she has close friends all over the world”). She exudes the power to cause awe in someone like Villanelle. She fences, and she can get into places during breakfast hours that don’t serve breakfast. I too hate “constant eggs.”
Cara: Carolyn is pretty freaking amazing, and cold as ice. I really enjoyed Eve and Constantine on surveillance. Eve’s so intense, and Constantine is just chomping on crunchy snacks in everyone’s ear.
THE BAD
Christie: We needed Niko and Eve to move forward with where ever their relationship was headed. It’s a shame it ended. But Eve did Niko wrong.
Also — Aaron Peel sucks the air from large rooms. He needs to go.
Cara: Yeah, Aaron Peel is the absolute worst. I want him gone, but I have a feeling he’s going to be around for a bit…well, unless Eve kills him, which would honestly be fine by me.
I think it’s pretty amazing that the show managed to make Niko seem like the bad guy for leaving. I mean, I held out so much hope for Eve and Niko. Who knows what’s next, but Christie’s right. The relationship has to evolve or end because Eve is not the same person she used to be. You know who I really hate though, Gemma. She has been on Niko since day one, and maybe she’s the right gal for him, who knows. But, I have a feeling Niko is just looking for some female attention. I guess we’ll see.
THE OMG MOMENT:
Christie: Easily the AA scenes. And one in particular. Eve made a mistake giving Villanelle legit work, and I have a feeling this is going to come back to bite her.
Cara: Uh, yeah. The post-AA meeting moment was definitely a shock. I mean, we shouldn’t expect less from Villanelle, but holy crap. This can only end badly, and if anything, it’s giving Villanelle way too much opportunity to wreak havoc.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Christie: Overall, this was a great episode for moving the story forward. But I do need the Aaron Peel story wrapped up. Mostly because I just want to see something awful happen to him.
Cara: Yeah, there was a lot of business done this week. I’m curious what Villanelle was up to at the end. It can’t be anything good or helpful.
