Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

It’s that time again to salute those actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work, those actresses who are rising stars. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next two actresses who viewers should keep their eye on:

Harriet Dyer

The Australian actress was born in Queensland and graduated in 2011 from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. She began working in her home country in the 2012 mockumentary Micro Nation followed by the holiday movie A Moody Christmas. She has appeared in the Australian series Janet King and Love Child for which she received several acting nominations.

Over the next few years, she appeared in the Australian comedy shows No Activity and Kiki and Kitty as well as the dramas Rake and Hyde & Seek.

On May 29, she will make her American TV debut in the lead role of Cassie Bedford in the NBC summer series The InBetween – starring alongside Arrow alum Paul Blackthorne and I Am The Night’s Justin Cromwell.

Here is a description for The InBetween:  Cassie is a Seattle medium who struggles with her “gift.” When Tom Hackett (Blackthorne), her father and a veteran police detective, comes across a particularly gruesome murder, she’s able to provide some insight based on her dark and haunting visions, and becomes Seattle P.D.’s clandestine partner. She must also convince Hackett’s skeptical new partner, former FBI agent Damien Asante (Cromwell), that her skills are real — all while battling her own demons.

Adria Arjona

Adria was born in Puerto Rico, but moved to Miami when she was a pre-teen before moving to New York at the age of 18 to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

Her first TV roles included appearances on Unforgettable and Person of Interest before getting a role in the second season of True Detective, and then landing the lead role of Dorothy Gale in the NBC short-lived series Emerald City.

She has appeared in the box office film Pacific Rim: Uprising and was the sole woman in the Netflix original movie Triple Frontier that includes among its cast Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal and Garrett Hedlund. At the end of this month she will appear alongside Michael Sheen and David Tennant in the highly anticipated streaming series Good Omens on Amazon.

Here is a trailer for Good Omens:

It should also be noted that Adria will be joining the Marvel Universe, appearing in the Spider-man spin-off Morbius alongside Jared Leto and Matt Smith.

Adria can be followed on Instagram.
