A Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

It’s that time again to salute those actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work, those actresses who are rising stars. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next group of actresses who viewers should keep their eyes on:

Evie Templeton

Evie is a teen actress who was born in Barbados and then her family moved to England when she was 7 years old where she grew up living near London. At the tender age of 10, she started appearing in local theatre productions, landing roles in Les Miserables where she performed as both young Éponine and young Cosette.

She attended the prestigious Tring Park School for Performing Arts and then she earned a scholarship to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She has described herself as a “big history girl” who also loves biology and literature.

She made her big screen debut in the 2020 independent film Red and then had a minor role in the BBC period drama Life After Life in 2022. That same year she had a small role in the 2022 live-action Disney movie Pinocchio where she played a member of the Pleasure Island Troupe. Her first major film role was in 2023 in the horror flick Lord of Misrule, playing alongside Downton Abbey’s Tuppence Middleton.

She then had a major role in the 2024 video game Silent Hill 2 before getting cast in the second season of Wednesday on Netflix, playing Agnes DeMille. Agnes has the ability to become invisible and she is also overly obsessed with Wednesday Addams. Her character quickly became a fan favorite and she got the opportunity to perform the big dance number in Season 2 alongside her co-star Emma Myers, who plays series regular Enid Sinclair.

Evie’s next upcoming project will be reprising her role in the 2026 film Return to Silent Hill and she is expected to return as Agnes in season three of Wednesday.

She is the youngest of two children, being six years younger than her sister, who is a professional ballet dancer. In addition to acting, Evie enjoys dancing, singing, writing and vintage films.

All 8 episodes of Season 2 of Wednesday are now available on Netflix.

Sydney Chandler

Sydney is the eldest daughter of actor Kyle Chandler, best known for his role of Coach Eric Taylor in the popular small screen adaptation of Friday Night Lights. She primarily grew up outside of Austin, Texas but does frequent Los Angeles because of her budding Hollywood career.

In 2016 she had a very small role in the obscure film The Golden Rut, leading up to appearances in several shorts in 2019 and 2022. It was in 2022 that she landed a lead role in the FX on Hulu mini-series Pistols, which focused on the Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and the band’s rise to fame. She portrayed founding member of the Pretenders Chrissie Hynde. She then followed up that role with a part in the Olivia Wilde-directed and Florence Pugh and Harry Styles-starring film Don’t Worry Darling.

What is most interesting about Sydney is that she wanted to “stay very far away from” acting because of her dad. In fact, she shared in an interview that she “wanted to be a vet,” but then in her last year of high school – when she “was failing…math and…science,” – she thought, “maybe not.” So she shifted into creative writing, and took an acting class in Austin. She shared in that same interview that she “wanted to just do a character study on writers, on actors, and see people trying to act,” but then she “ended up just absolutely falling in love with it.”

Last year, Sydney had a recurring role in the Apple TV+ drama Sugar, which stars Colin Farrell. This then led her to landing one of the lead roles in the FX horror series Alien: Earth, a prequel to the sci-fi film franchise Alien, which is set in the year 2120. She plays Wendy, the protagonist in the series, who is a rare blend of synthetic and human consciousness.
