My Top Choices for September TV

By  |

It’s hard to believe that Fall TV is just around the corner. Where did summer go, by the way? It seems like each year just goes by faster and faster, doesn’t it?

At least there are plenty of TV options to get us through each month, right?!

With that thought in mind, here are my top choices for what I am most anxious to watch on TV throughout September.

FINALE AND OTHERS

The finale of Countdown, starring Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles, will air on Amazon Prime on September 3.

The worldwide phenomenon Downton Abbey will be coming to a close when the third and final box office movie – Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale – hits the big screen on September 12. In honor of that momentous moment, the special Downton Abbey Celebrates the Grand Finale will air on NBC on September 10 at 9 PM. The one-hour telecast features conversations with the beloved cast of the upcoming third and final film as they convened at London’s famed Savoy Hotel to exclusively share personal memories and never-before-told secrets from the franchise’s 15-year journey.

Then on September 21, the documentary Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery will debut on both Hulu and Disney+, telling the untold story of the groundbreaking music festival featuring only women artists, started by iconic Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan and her team in the late 1990s. Lilith Fair was put together in opposition to systemic industry barriers that limited women from playing together on a concert bill and getting back-to-back airplay on the radio. As an uber-fan of Sarah MacLachlan, I will be waiting with baited breath to see this documentary.

MOVIE, MOVIE, MOVIE

Jenna Ortega will be leaving the pigtails and morbid attire aside on September 1 when she stars alongside her season one Wednesday co-star Percy Hynes White in the new Paramount+ movie Winter Spring Summer or Fall that focuses on two very different teenagers who meet by chance in the winter of their senior year, then spend four days together over the course of a year that will change their lives forever.

NEW DRAMAS TO WATCH

Then there are the new dramas that will debut during September, including:

NCIS: Tony & Ziva on Paramount+ on September 4. I started out watching JAG when it debuted way back in 1995 on NBC and followed it over to CBS where it ran for 9 more seasons, spawning the sprawling NCIS franchise, and I will be watching this new spin-off simply because Tony and Ziva have always been my favorite characters out of the entire franchise.

Marvel star Mark Ruffalo will be playing a very different character from Bruce Banner in the new HBO (and HBO Max) drama Task, which is set to debut on September 7 at 9 PM. He will be playing an FBI agent heading up a Task Force in the working class suburbs of Philadelphia, tasked to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.

RETURNING FOR MORE

Since it will be Fall TV time in September, there are several returning dramas that I am really looking forward to watching, including:

* The second part of season two of Wednesday, which will premiere on Netflix on September 3;
* Season two of High Potential will premiere on ABC on September 16 at 10 PM;
* Gen V, the spin-off series to The Boys, will premiere the first three episodes of its second season on Amazon Prime on September 17;
* Season two of Brilliant Minds will premiere on NBC at 10 PM on September 22; and,
* Murder in a Small Town will be back for its second season starting on September 23 at 8 PM on FOX.

Make sure to check out our full September TV calendar which will be posted this Thursday and let us know what programming options you are most looking forward to watching next month.
