My Top Choices for July TV
Summer is here, and while a lot of people will be planning their vacations or spending much of their time out of the house, those of us obsessed with TV will be planning out our viewing hours for the month of July.
And with that thought in mind, I’ve selected my top picks for all of next month from the movies and TV shows that will be airing, including the following:
MOVIES MOVIES MOVIES
Out of the nine movies airing in July, the two listed below are going to be interesting to watch:
Heads of State will air on July 2 on Amazon Prime. This action-comedy stars Idris Elba as the UK Prime Minister and John Cena as the US President, who have a public rivalry. But they are forced to team up and rely on each other when they become targets of a foreign adversary. They must work together to thwart a global conspiracy. They are also joined by a brilliant MI6 agent, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Also on July 2, the sequel movie The Old Guard 2 will debut on Netflix. The film finds Andy (Charlize Theron) struggling to live out her life after losing her immortality. That is until she and her group of immortals – KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Van Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor – come out of hiding to fight the first of the immortals who threatens the world. Uma Thurman and Henry Golding have joined the cast.
FINALES
The finales for the following shows will air during July:
Duster on MAX on July 3
Poker Face on Peacock on July 10
Murderbot on Apple TV+ on July 11
Sullivan’s Crossing on CW at 8 PM on July 16
NEW DRAMAS
There are seven new dramas set to debut throughout July and the one I most want to watch is actually part of the long-running Bosch franchise, which I never got into watching; that is until now. And, I want to watch it because of its lead star: Maggie Q.
That series is Ballard, airing on Amazon Prime on July 9. The series follows Detective Renée Ballard, who leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth.
RETURNING SHOWS
Lastly, the following two shows are coming back for new seasons but also ending after these new seasons are completed, and they are my top choices for July:
The Summer I Turned Pretty on July 16 on Amazon Prime; and
The Sandman on July 3 with its first six episodes on Netflix then the final six episodes on July 24 followed by a special bonus episode on July 31.
Our full July TV calendar will be posted at the end of this week so please make sure to check it out and share what programming you are most looking forward to watching.
