My Lucky 13 for June TV

By  |

Can you believe that it is nearly June?

It’s hard to imagine that half a year has already gone by and with it so many TV shows and movies and specials and more have aired on the major and cable networks and all over streaming.

The following are my top choices for the month of June, or more to the point, my lucky 13:

FINALES

The two finales that I am most looking forward to are:

Leverage: Redemption on Amazon Prime on June 5; and,
Sherlock & Daughter on CW on June 11 at 9 PM.

RETURNING DRAMAS

Out of the half dozen or so dramas that will be returning for a new season throughout June, I am most anxious to watch the following:

Resident Alien on June 6, which will be simulcast on both Syfy and the USA Network at 11 PM
FUBAR on Netflix on June 12
The Buccaneers on Apple TV+ on June 18
The Gilded Age on HBO at 9 PM on June 22

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES

While I typically enjoy watching most of the Hallmark movies, the movies in June that I am most eager to see are:

Neighborhood Watch on AMC+ on June 6. The movie stars Jack Quaid and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, need I say more? Ok, the movie focuses on what happens when a young man (Quaid) thinks he witnesses an abduction and police won’t believe him, he reluctantly turns to his neighbor, a bitter, retired security guard (Morgan), to help him find the missing woman.

Deep Cover on Amazon Prime on June 12, which will follow three improv actors, Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her students Marlon (Orlando Bloom) and Hugh (Nick Mohammed), who are hired by the police to help them catch minor criminals. But the actors’ instinct to say ‘yes’ to everything and to remain true to their characters at all times sees them become tangled up in London’s criminal scene, impersonating dangerous criminals. The trio quickly find themselves in over their heads. The fact that Sean Bean, Ian McShane and Paddy Considine are also in the movie is an added bonus.

NEW DRAMAS SET TO DEBUT

There are about a dozen new dramas set to debut next month and the shows that made by top 5 list include:

Outrageous on Britbox on June 18. Bridgerton’s own Bessie Carter (who is the daughter of Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter and Harry Potter’s Imelda Staunton) stars in the 1930’s-based series that focuses on the aristocratic Mitford sisters – six headstrong women who frequently made headlines around the world, yet their lives would ultimately take very different paths. Other cast members include Anna Chancellor, James Purefoy, Joshua Sasse and Toby Regbo.

The Waterfront on June 19 on Netflix. The ensemble cast for this show set in Havenport, North Carolina is insane. Think about this: Holt McCallany (who can be seen right now in Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning), Maria Bello (from NCIS), Melissa Benoist (from Supergirl), Jake Weary (from Animal Kingdom), Danielle Campbell (from The Originals), Dave Annable (from Yellowstone and Brothers & Sisters), Zach Roerig (from The Vampire Diaries), Topher Grace (from That 70’s Show and Home Economics) and Rafael L. Silva (from 9-1-1: Lone Star) are all part of the cast in a story about the ruling Buckley family who dominate everything from the local fishing industry to the town’s restaurant scene that is until everything starts to crumble arond them.

Ironheart on Disney+ on June 24. The next series in the ever-growing Marvel Universe finds Dominique Thorne back as Riri Williams, last seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world. She returns to her hometown of Chicago to put her unique take on building iron suits on the map, only to find her ambitious pursuit wrapping her up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka The Hood (Hamilton’s Anthony Ramos).

Countdown on Amazon Prime on June 25. Supernatural fans have been waiting for Jensen Ackles to back in a lead role on TV (especially after his crazy turn as Soldier Boy in The Boys), and this series will be it. He plays LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement.

Lastly, the new drama Smoke will debut on Apple TV+ on June 27, starring Rocketman star Taron Egerton and Birds of Prey alum Jurnee Smollett in a series about a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.

Our full June TV calendar – focusing primarily on dramas, movies and specials – will go live tomorrow. Make sure to check it out so you can set your June calendar for all the programming you want to see.
