FYSEE LA: Netflix’s Emmy Festival
The Los Angeles area is soon going to see the arrival of a two-week festival run by Netflix as a way to promote its Emmy contenders.
From May 17 through June 2, the streaming service will host FYSEE LA, a festival that will take over theatres and iconic locations throughout the city to bring together TV Academy members and Netflix’s Emmy-contending talent. The FYSEE is a play on words for the FYC (For Your Consideration) that heralds the Emmy Awards season.
You can learn more about the event here and see John Mulaney, the host of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, in a video promoting the event that will take place everywhere from Santa Monica, Hollywood and Pasadena to Eagle Rock, to The Valley as well as South Central all while supporting local businesses impacted by the wildfires that struck the greater Los Angeles area earlier this year.
Just some of the celebs expected to make an appearance during the two-week event include Kristen Bell and Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), Simone Biles (Simone Biles Rising), Ted Danson (A Man on the Inside), Tina Fey (The Four Seasons), Paul Giamatti, Tracee Ellis Ross and Rashida Jones (Black Mirror), Jamie Foxx (Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…), Kate Hudson and Mindy Kaling (Running Point), Allison Janney and Keri Russell (The Diplomat), Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game), Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Sarah Silverman (Sarah Silverman: PostMortem).
The following are just some of the featured events that will be held during FYSEE LA:
Black Mirror on May 17 at the TV Academy Saban Medical Center Wolf Theater. The kickoff event, which will feature a conversation with the casts and creative teams behind the Black Mirror episodes “Eulogy,” “Common People” and the sequel “USS Callister: Into Infinity.”
Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney also on May 17 at The Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. This will be the opening night event, with John Mulaney anchoring an evening celebrating his critically acclaimed talk show.
The Diplomat on May 18 at The Huntington Library in Pasadena. Series creator Debora Cahn and lead stars Keri Russell and Allison Janney (among others from the show) will highlight the second season of the acclaimed drama.
A Netflix Documentary Spotlight also on May 18 at Netflix’s Tudum Theater. The teams behind the streamer’s impactful documentaries like Will & Harper, Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing (and more) will be highlighted.
The Four Seasons on May 19 at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica. This event will include cast members Tina Fey and Will Forte (among others) as well as the creative team behind the small screen series adaptation of the movie of the same name, which will be followed by an oceanside reception.
A Man on the Inside on May 21 at the Motion Picture & TV Fund in Woodland Hills. Star Ted Danson, series creator Mike Schur and other cast members will participate in a conversation about the popular crime comedy.
Adolescence on May 27 at the Wolf Theatre at the Saban Medical Center. Stars Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper will come together to talk about the critically acclaimed limited series.
Squid Game on May 30 at The Egyptian Theater. The show’s director Hwang Dong-hyuk and cast members Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun (among others) will talk about the global phenomenon.
Running Point on May 30 at the LA Lakers’ UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo. A screening of the comedy will be held along with a conversation with cast members Kate Hudson, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, Jeanie Buss (among others) and producers.
Nobody Wants This on June 1 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Sciences. Cast members Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons and Jackie Tohn will be on hand for a live taping of The World’s First Podcast to be hosted by creator, Executive Producer and writer Erin Foster and her sister and fellow Executive Producer Sara Foster.
Simone Biles Rising on June 2 at The Hollywood Athletic Club. This will be the closing event with Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles on hand for an intimate conversation with director Katie Walsh as well as a special performance by a local gymnastic group.
On May 29, there will be an all-star night of comedy at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, featuring stand-up sets and a live panel conversation with Mike Birbiglia, Michelle Buteau, Andrew Schulz, Tom Segura and Sarah Silverman, followed by a marquee conversation with Jamie Foxx moderated by his daughter Corinne Foxx.
The hub for the two-week long event will be at Netflix’s Hollywood headquarters where marathon screenings will be offered along with photo opportunities, collectible giveaways, a Craft Central area, conversations with artisans and custom displays that will include iconic costumes, wigs, props and more from shows like American Primeval, Bridgerton, Emily in Paris, The Residence and more.
