Movie Trivia: Do You Remember

By  |

How about we take another look back at some entertainment trivia, this time focused on movies from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.

First, we’ll start with the Drew Barrymore flick Never Been Kissed, which co-starred Michael Vartan (of Alias fame), Scream cast member David Arquette and SNL alum Molly Shannon.

You remember this movie, right?

The one about former high school nerd Josie Geller, now a copy editor at the Chicago Sun Times, who gets the assignment of a lifetime (or at least she thinks that), getting the chance to go back to high school at South Glen South to report on what kids were like at that time because the owner of the paper (played by the late Garry Marshall) chose her at random during an employee meeting.

Her best friend was played by Shannon while Arquette was her brother Rob and the hunky teacher, who Josie ended up falling for, was played by Vartan.

But do you remember that Oscar winner (Best Supporting Actress of 2012 for The Help) Octavia Spencer was also in that movie? She played Cynthia, one of Josie’s friends at the newspaper office.

Do you also remember that Dark Angel star Jessica Alba was also in the movie? She played Kirsten, one of the three most popular girls at South Glen South high school.

And that’s not all. Do you remember that James Franco (127 Hours and Pineapple Express) was also in the movie, playing Jason, one of the most popular bosy also at South Glen Soouth high school.

Last, but certainly not least, do you remember that Cress Williams played George, the videographer from the Chicago Sun Times, who helped Josie with the required video feed forced upon Josie by Managing Editor Gus (played by the incomparable John C. Reilly). Cress was the star of the superhero series Black Lightning as well as the dramedy series Hart of Dixie.

An interesting piece of trivia about this movie is that actor Jeremy Jordan, who played high school hunk and prom King Guy Perkins shares his name with another well-known actor – Jeremy Jordan of Broadway fame, who has been seen in the musical drama Smash as well as the popular Hallmark movies Hanukkah on Rye and Holly and Ivy and was a series regular on the superhero series Supergirl.

Then, we move over to the 2002 movie Spider-Man that reintroduced us to the world of Peter Parker with Tobey Maguire playing the title character and Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane Watson, which ironically included as part of its cast the aforementioned Octavia Spencer and James Franco, but also an actor who went on to play a role in True Blood and is now the host of a popular game show reboot. That would be Joe Manganiello, who played Flash Thompson, the high school nemesis to Peter Parker.

Then, do you remember the 2000 box office movie Center Stage, which has become a cult classic?

The movie, as most moviegoers know, focused on a group of teenagers enrolled at the American Balley Academy in New York. The movie introduced audiences to newcomer Amanda Schull, who had no prior film acting experience before landing the lead role of Jody Sawyer, as she was discovered by a casting director while still a studen with the San Francisco Ballet.

But there was also another actor in the cast who was making their film debut. That would be the 2025 Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress, for Emilia Perez, Zoe Saldana, who played fellow ballet dancer Eva.

So, how many times have you seen the above-mentioned movies and did you remember those actors and actresses being part of the cast for each film?
